      PSLEmom:
Our DS has joined Anderson this year...scored around 250. Heard that those who had joined last year requested for transfer to other school as they cdn't handled the pressure, during the first term itself!!!

Interested in getting my daughter into this school next year, just told her to work towards this goal. I think the stress is there since it is 1 of the good sch but dun think it shld b more stressed than those independent sch. Anyway, sometimes stress can b quite healthy to push our kids to work harder

yesterday's stabbing of one boy by another boy in school

which class are the boys from ?

            http://www.tnp.sg/content/sec-3-boy-stabbed-penknife-school

HE TOLD his classmate not to be rude to their teacher, and ended up getting stabbed on his left arm with a penknife.

The victim, Sim Jingwen, 15, told The New Paper over the phone that he felt his classmate was rude to their English language teacher.

The Secondary 3 student from Anderson Secondary School in Ang Mo Kio said that after the lesson, he approached the classmate and they quarrelled. Jingwen ended up with 1.5cm long wound which needed eight stitches.

There have been a recent spate of violent incidents in schools, including one last month in which a boy was cut on the head with a paper cutter.

Read the full story in The New Paper on Friday (March 2).

My daughter goes to the school. She said she and her friends play football with the boy who hurt his classmate. According to her, the boy was taunted endlessly and lost his cool thus stabbing the victim. Apparently he is usually a mild and well-mannered student so everyone was suprised by his violent reaction. He was actually placed in a police lock-up before his parents bailed him out. I feel sorry for both boys 😞

It is a band 1 school and it was voted as the best neighbourhood school by Straits Times in 2005. It is not easy to get into this school (COP 245)

Good schools take in students base on their results not behaviour. Such incident can happen in any school, not just Anderson. The boy could be under stress. According to your girl, he is a mild & well-mannered boy. I feel sorry for both boys too.

                        Rich dad poor dad:
Never really hear much discussion on Anderson for this year...Any parent want to share your view?

My daughter is in Sec 1 this year. She loves the school and her classmates. The teachers are very concerned too. She did not do well for her English comprehension, Science and Math for CA2 test. These 3 subjects teacher make arrangement for students to stay back after school and coach them. For her English comprehension, her teacher asked 3 of the pupils to stay back for private coaching.

Before PSLE results were released, we had been to :
                        Secondary school AND 2011 Cut-off-point
                        ZhongHua in serangoon 232
                        Anderson 245
                        Xinmin in Hougang 235
                        NanChiau in Sengkang 236
Cedar girls in Potong Pasir 249

Since Anderson 2010 cut-off-point is 245, we decided to put Anderson as 1st choice of school. Initially, my daughter did not really like Anderson after visiting the school. But now, she feels differently.

By the way, for PSLE score. I understand that there is some decimal numbers after the score that is shown on the result slip. But exactly how many, i do not know. My friend's child score is also 245 but he did not get in. So i guess my daughter's decimal no. is higher than that boy.

Anderson's principal is also very caring and approachable. For example, students are allowed to wear PE t-shirt with shorts (for boys), PE t-shirt with pinafore dress (for girls) for Term 3 due to the very hot weather.

For the boy that stabbed his classmate, he was canned in the hall on the 1st week of Term 3. He was suspended for Term 2 and had been seeing doctors in IMH. He is only allowed to go back to school after he is certified by the doctors. School do conduct spot checks for students having harmful weapons after this incident.

Anderson also conducts lots of parenting talks. If you are interested and free to attend, it is always Free.

I have no regret choosing this school for my daughter.
