My daughter goes to the school. She said she and her friends play football with the boy who hurt his classmate. According to her, the boy was taunted endlessly and lost his cool thus stabbing the victim. Apparently he is usually a mild and well-mannered student so everyone was suprised by his violent reaction. He was actually placed in a police lock-up before his parents bailed him out. I feel sorry for both boys 😞

Is Anderson a good school :?:

it is claimed to be 1 of the best sch in the north

It is a band 1 school and it was voted as the best neighbourhood school by Straits Times in 2005. It is not easy to get into this school (COP 245)

Good schools take in students base on their results not behaviour. Such incident can happen in any school, not just Anderson. The boy could be under stress. According to your girl, he is a mild & well-mannered boy. I feel sorry for both boys too.

Never really hear much discussion on Anderson for this year...Any parent want to share your view?

My daughter is in Sec 1 this year. She loves the school and her classmates. The teachers are very concerned too. She did not do well for her English comprehension, Science and Math for CA2 test. These 3 subjects teacher make arrangement for students to stay back after school and coach them. For her English comprehension, her teacher asked 3 of the pupils to stay back for private coaching.

Before PSLE results were released, we had been to :
                Secondary school AND 2011 Cut-off-point
                ZhongHua in serangoon 232
                Anderson 245
                Xinmin in Hougang 235
                NanChiau in Sengkang 236
Cedar girls in Potong Pasir 249

Since Anderson 2010 cut-off-point is 245, we decided to put Anderson as 1st choice of school. Initially, my daughter did not really like Anderson after visiting the school. But now, she feels differently.

By the way, for PSLE score. I understand that there is some decimal numbers after the score that is shown on the result slip. But exactly how many, i do not know. My friend's child score is also 245 but he did not get in. So i guess my daughter's decimal no. is higher than that boy.

Anderson's principal is also very caring and approachable. For example, students are allowed to wear PE t-shirt with shorts (for boys), PE t-shirt with pinafore dress (for girls) for Term 3 due to the very hot weather.

For the boy that stabbed his classmate, he was canned in the hall on the 1st week of Term 3. He was suspended for Term 2 and had been seeing doctors in IMH. He is only allowed to go back to school after he is certified by the doctors. School do conduct spot checks for students having harmful weapons after this incident.

Anderson also conducts lots of parenting talks. If you are interested and free to attend, it is always Free.

I have no regret choosing this school for my daughter.

                  Hi,
Glad to hear feedbacks on this sch. Yes it's true there many decimal points behind the aggregate score. Heard its abt 6-7 decimal places.
Yr friend's son shd hv appealed to Anderson Sec. Most likely, he would have been accepted if had tried.

                  May I ask:
-does the sch preteach Upper Sec Sci syllabus to the Lower Sec 1-2?
-is it true that there are many daily sch h/wk given to students that no time to do Assessment books? That's what I heard.

                  Tks.

My child is in Anderson and I have heard from her that the standard of every subject is raised so that O levels will be easier. Not sure if they do preteach some upper sec science syllabus, but I do know that the standard is quite high as science is its niche area. They do preteach some of the upper sec maths syllabus though, and algebra questions in lower secondary are already set at O level standard.

My husband guides my daughter Science. Based on the worksheets that my daughter is doing, he said the school teaches all the basic for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. She will learn in depth when she is in upper secondary.

Anderson had given sufficient worksheets for every subject, so i did not buy assessment books for my daughter. Moreover, she does not have much time too, so i prefer her to rest or revise her work after she finishes her homework. I only buy assessment book that she said she need it, or I will buy reference book instead.

For Science, I have bought O-level Chemistry at your fingertips, O-level Biology at your fingertips by EPH. These are reference books recommended by my sis-in-law.
I also bought Lower secondary Science Conceptual Exercises 1 & 2 by GLM (for sec 1 & 2).

                      Hope the above helps.

I am glad that I put my DS in Anderson. They aim for overall development of the students instead of just focusing at their scores. The teachers are friendly according to my DS. He has just completed the Sec 1 …not sure of the stress levels in the next 3 years. But overall we are satisfied with the school
