Secondary Schools - Girls' Only

Yes..we impart our family values with our best efforts but with teen raging hormones at play and seeing each other in school everyday, it will not be easy to \"manage\" their feelings in co-ed school environment. My own statistics compiled from colleagues and friends- 5 out of 7 was in BGR by Sec 3 (Co-Ed) and Zero out of 9 was in any BGR (same sex sch). Definitely pro-same sex sch here too!Personally, I'm in favour of same gender school. What with some teens having raging hormones and recent Sunday Times reports on teens sex are not helping.
Nowadays, even if students are from same gender schools, these teens can still mix around with friends from the opposite gender during tuition classes, CCAs and church activities. As someone mentioned earlier, it is important to instill good family values and provide positive parental support. Hopefully, our kids will listen to what we say, raging hormones notwithstanding. Hmmm...

Yes- if gal is non affiliated joining a affiliated school, it will take a while for the gal to blend in. A teacher friend from MGS told me that her observation is about 1 year after which they will be all right. The more sociable ones will have no problem.
St. Margareet / any other school with affliated school students will have some friction when non affliated student arrive in secondary. Your girl should be friendly & able to gel well with those posted from affliated school...... there is no fist fight , but i heard it is common that 'Girls' show each other 'Fist' in case of conflitpikachu:
I am considering sending my girl to St Margaret or Crescent if her result permits. Can you elaborate more on the girls fist fight at St Margaret?
Thanks.
From what I know of St.Margaret culture, the gals are very close knitted and united. School environment is balanced and the moms I \"interviewed\" told me their gals love the school. I don't hear of \"fist fights\" though. I think for every school, there is bound to have some \"negative\" stories. I even hear of not so good stories about some RGS gals - worse than showing fists! -
haha, westmom. Looks like we're on the same page!

Hi DadOfGirl
If not mistaken, I think SACSS is going to its holding school at the current Tampines Sec Sch (used to be the old Temasek Sec Sch). It’s abt 10 - 15 mins walk from Bedok MRT station. Holding period likely to be some time 2011 - 2012. -

Thank you Schweppes for update. St. Anthony's Canosssian Sec seems to goos option over CHIJ St. Theresa' since holding site is better. School also gas better recommendation in this thread. COP is however higher for CHIJ St. Theresa'... Which school is better ?Hi DadOfGirl

Eh… not too sure which is a better school.
From the recent 2009 School Achievements ranking, CHIJ Theresa was ranked Band 8 and SACSS was ranked Band 9. Guess u would need to consider factors like:
- Academic performance
- Niche focus
- CCA abilities/ varieties - which CCA in the respective sch might appeal to your daughter
- School environment, value system
- Quality of teachers - nurturing? encouraging?
Not too sure about CHIJ T’s principal, but I’ve heard positive feedback about the principal, Ms Melanie Martens for SACSS. One of my friends who had her as a teacher (b4 she became principal) described her as a dynamic and good teacher. Apparently, she was an international hockey player who played for Spore. Come to think of it, Ms Martens was formerly a teacher at CHIJ T before being promoted to Principal at SACSS. What a coincidence! -
