      Hi,

My dd has also been offered. She just called me from school. Now, we have to seriously think about whether to join or not.

She's doing competitive swimming which trains minimum 3 times a week and her coach has already \"advised\" them not to go into gep during the selection test.

On top of that, I am a FTWM and have a son doing PSLE next year and a baby to tend to. I'm more worried about myself and fear for my sanity. I read about the amount of parental involvement needed and that scares me! Just coaching the kids for SA2, especially my son, has already taken years off me and given me lots of white hair 😒

Parental involvement doesn't have to be extensive. I, for one, left my daughter to do all her own assignments, projects, revisions etc throughout her 3 years in GEP. I think it's the kiasu parents who feel they need to help their kids with their projects etc. If parents get too involved in the schoolwork, the child will not learn as much and that defeats the purpose of being in GEP. And at the end of the day, will the child be proud to call her assignment/book review/project her own? Or was it Mummy's?

Having said that, parents must be on hand to offer moral support, to give them a listening ear when things get too tough. In short, be a parent.

I totally agreed with turquoise. My son is in P5 GEP and he would do and completed his homework / project by himself. He is always in bed before 9pm as he had to wake up early to catch the school bus. Some of his classmates parent that I talked to also find that they are too relax and not much homeworks other than the project. So no worry she will be able to manage on her own.

I can feel the strain you are subjected to.

How about leaving the coaching of your son to a tutor?

How does your daughter feel about it? Is there any way that she can get more first hand info so that she can decide?

I am also a parent of a P4 GEP this year. This is a good opportunity for your kids to extend themselves and even it is tough, I find it a good learning process for them to toughen them up for challenges in the future. You rather have them to do the 😒 now and deal with the challenges in the relative safe environment of the school then to do it when they are older. You will have to do some adjustment initially but I find enriching for the parent and the child.

And for those who have not received the YELLOW ENVELOPE, I suggest parents write a letter of reassurance and put it in a beautiful envelope, be it red, blue, green or even yellow, and address it to their beloved children.

Assure them that their value, esteem and worth are not tagged to a brand - GEP, concorted by some policy-makers .

Assure them that you love them all the same because they are God's gift to you.
