So this means that working moms are the ones to suffer! If we give our FDW’s the mandatory weekly rest day, then the day we want to take some rest before the madhouse that is work starts all over again disappears…

Ah well…time to rethink on going maidless and having a PT job or being a SAHM…

I don't think that works as an argument. Your maid isn't entitled to a day off but you are! I'm sorry but you chose to have children and they are a 24x7 responsibility. She is just a paid employee.

And before you ask, my maid currently only has 2 Sundays off so we will be impacted by this change. Most likely I will have to pay her as I doubt she will want to take the extra days which goes against the spirit of the change but we have to suffer to protect maids against those who refuse to give days off.

It's not about the children. My children, my responsibility has always been my mantra. My maid is there at home just to ensure that there is someone to pick them up from the busstop and feed them when they come back.

Having a helper help out at home during weekends means I have some time to myself, guess this will go out of the window. Guess I'll have to pay her proportionately to have her at home most weekends.

Effective from next year, and only applies to those renewing or starting from 1.1.13.

When the time comes my maid (if I still have one then),will be given the day off every week. If she doesn’t want to go out, that’s her problem, not mine.

Yes, I also think if they dont want to go out (4 days/month), it is their problem. They should not expect the extra money. We can just provide them food. Currently I am paying $25 dollars for her off-day. It is not because I want her to work for me. I just want to save the trouble of wandering around and get into trouble. But if it comes for 4 days (next year), I am not prepared to pay and will let her take her off-days.

Maybe we have to get used to the idea that they may be \"off\" but still at home. We can't force them to go out so in theory they could just stay at home and sleep all day, chat on the phone or whatever.

Remember that all these arrangements must be agreed by the maid. That’s what the newspaper say. Maid must agree.

Maids signed contract. Later unhappy, said madam forced her to sign. Then organizations will come out and condemn employer. Maids don’t lie.

Parents, care to share how many hours of ‘off’ you give your helpers? I used to give 8 hours off to previous helpers. Am enrolling my kids into flexi childcare weekday programme so will persuade helper to take off day on one of those days instead of Sunday.
