All About Choosing and Buying Pianos

I got a second hand U3 (26years old) from piano gallery last year at 4.5K. So far so good, no complain.
-
The yen is high now so do expect to pay a bit more for 2ndhand Jap pianos as they are sourced from Japan

Hi All - Greetings!
I have taken delivery of my new Shigeru Kawai recently and hence we would need to sell away our meticulously cared for Kawai K8 that we bought new 3+ years ago to a good family.
So here’s the details:-
Model - Kawai K8 (132cm)
Colour - Polished Ebony
Serial# - 287xxxx
Age - 3+ years, bought brand new from RP Singapore.
- religiously tuned every six months by RP. Last tuning done this november 2011
- Heater is turned on since day 1 and a disposable dehumidifier is placed within cabinet and changed every 2 months.
If you like to know further details, please contact me via PM.
Thanks for reading. -
Whoa Shigeru! You certainly are a Kawai supporter.
Please don't say it's SK7 ...... or I'll go greenish with pure envy.
Can post some pics of your beautiful piano here? Both of them? -
ok… an update on our piano-shopping… keke…
we FINALLY bought a Bechstein A1… (after trying out numerous hoffmans, petrofs, yamahas, kawais, schimmels, etc etc etc…) The whole family loves it ~ for both its touch and its sound ~ so i guess we can consider the time + money well spent…
just want to say a big THANK YOU to all the nice & very helpful people who took the time to share their piano-shopping experiences & knowledge, esp markfch, rq1111, jce, KKKS, etc ~
ps. i went to the Esplanade Library recently and found that it has lots of piano scores of all genres… (pop, classical, chinese, new age, cantonese, jazz, oldies, J-pop, K-pop…) in various levels (elementary to professional). Sure wish i had discovered it sooner! drop by for a look if you’re interested ~ -
Another uncommon piano. You bought yours from Cristofori at Funan? Did the sales guy play ‘The Last Waltz’ as demo? That’s what he did for me every time I went there few years back. He played on the C Bechstein upright there - very nice. Wish son can play like that.
Can post some pics of your beautiful piano too? -
Congrats Intermezzo and Steppy on your purchase. Bechstein has very mixed reviews but as long as the pianist is happy and the family is happy, it's good
By the way, Steppy, can you PM me the price of your K8. May have someone who's interested. Thanks. -

it's just a normal upright piano, about 125 cm tall.. not an upright-grand if that's what you mean?
didn't get to hear the Last Waltz for demo.. what a pity..
maybe the guy wasn't there on that day.. we had to demo DIY..
so which piano did u get? -

Congratulations, Intermezzo!! Bechstein-A1 is a wonderful piano based on many reviews. My daughter had a chance to play both Bechstein-A1 and Bechstein-124 few months back and our family loved the tone of both pianos. I am not sure how to describe the color of the tone, but it is definitely crystal clear, pure and sweet. Somehow, it reminded me something similar to the Grotrian-132 that we tried a year ago at Pianomaster. Enjoy!!

Yalor, Last Waltz contains some arpeggios which made for beautiful music.

I got the Sauter M1 in the end. Very nice piano too - even had my son's name engraved on it. So now if I ever have to sell this piano for whatever reason, I just need to find a buyer with the same name as my son. :yikes: -
What’s your son’s name? I don’t mind a Sauter. Perhaps I should name my future son after yours just so that I can buy it off you! Haha!
-
Great! So engraving my son's name into the M1 isn't such a dumb thing to do financially after all, hahaha.
-
FQW:
wow.. is that the IN thing to do? i remember another forumner here, markfch also engraved his son's name on his Sauter?

yup it's hard to tear myself from the piano keke.. which is why i haven't been back in this forum for so long.. doesn't leave much time for housework keke...
wow your daughter must be very pro to play on so many good pianos.. Grotrian is definitely gorgeous.. i guess she plays at concerts quite often? -
My experience with all the salespersons/owners of the Piano shops in Singapore has been a pleasant one. I let my daughter try different pianos when possible, from the less known brand to the top of the rank without any prejudice. She picked up piano seriously only 1 1/2 years ago. Still far from playing at concerts, may be one day...

i'm sure she'll have a wonderful learning journey, with all the support and encouragement you're giving her ~ -
I am looking at a few advertisements on the secondhand Yamaha Lu series (LU90 and LU100 to be exact) piano. They cost between SGD1500 to SGD2500, depending on the manufacturing years.
Is there any difference between Yamaha LU90 and Yamaha LU100? Where can I find information about Yamaha LU series? -
Hi all,
I don’t have high budget, no experience in music and piano. Seriously to me all piano sound and look the same. My girl is going for G1, but I’m not sure how long she is going to play.
I’m considering a brandnew Hailun 125cm, as the Jap brand are too costly and taking a 2nd hand is rather risky as I have no experience at all.
Anyone has any review on HaiLun and if its a good buy?
