\"Her son is a straight A student in a top boys' school here yet this mother spends $5,800 a month on his tuition....
To top it off, she pays people to do her son's homework when he can't cope with the combination of school and tuition assignments.
She pays $200 per hour if they have to swing by before midnight and $250 an hour when it's later...\"

Something is seriously wrong here... :yikes:

Hey, parents, don't forget the parents are the ones who think they are having the 'last and best laugh' hor. Maybe they are right and we are wrong? When you have so much wealth, what is S$6k really?

:skeptical: Think you are right......when one has sooooo much wealth, what is $6K? There are many out there who are spending thousands & thousands in all these enrichment/tuition etc. Anyway, it's all relative isn't it? What seems a lot to me....is peanuts to another 🤷

the kid who has been spoon fed will never learn how to fish for himself / herself…

the more i read about all these articles, the more I wonder and question : "Something is seriously wrong with our education system!??"

The "norm" now is all or most kids have extra classes beside school and the "abnormal" one are the kids without…damn…then i should get panicky cause my kid is "abnormal" At times, when my emotion takes over, I start to source for all the enrichment centers information and schedule. But having try a few, I still feel the best is parent’s involvement and not total outsourcing…but don’t think many parents think like this …and so in the end…my son will still lose out? xian…tired of the education here…now

Are we telling our children that MONEY can solve all problems?

MONEY buys quality homework, project work…etc
          MONEY buys quality sleep…
          Sounds like a good deal…?

I hope the tutor(s)who is/are helping the kids to do their homework is/are not ex- teachers…

I did encounter students who paid their classmates to do their homework.
Of course when the teachers found out these "homework business", these students were punished accordingly.

When there is a demand, there will always be a supply.

I would rather save that $6k monthly and then use the money to send them overseas (if they cant make it under the local system) … less stress!!

But sometimes I wonder......didn't the system start out as OK?

We human (some) wants to beat the system and isn't that how the whole systems just evolve and evolve?

NO matter what kind of system/policy there is......we eventually are the one who will morph it. Look at those who start 'enriching' their kids at 3-4 yo...and we are not talking about piano, art, swimming etc....it's English, Chinese, Sci, Maths etc. :siam: I also know of parents who wants the differentiation cos' they want their kids to be above others......... but then, frankly many others dare not be honest about this 'secret desire' of theirs.....
              🦆 :siam:

In everything… there is a tendancy to drift off centre. Even in a semi-conductor plant production line, engineers find the strange phenomenon they call "parameter drift". None of the production specifications have been changed, and yet the whole line has drifted off and has begun to produce defects.

It is a fact of nature that organisms and organisations drift towards chaos.

Engineers are very vigilant about parameter drift because the consequences are serious. They watch each portion of the system carefully and make necessary small adjustments to bring it back into equilibrium. MOE slept and forgot to watch the line.

It’s not a big deal. If you leave it alone, it will drift. You have to watch over it and make the right adjustments in view of changing circumstances. The past won’t come back again. The present needs to be managed and adjustments will manage it.

                      It's call.. wear and tear..

And yes.. tweaking is needed when it drifts off course..

talking abt kiasu parents.. it is the population's fault?

                      or the leadership..?

Yup... some parents view their kids' good results as their bragging rights.
