If the child learns positively, then I have nothing to say because every child needs different type of support and as parents we would give. If the child learns all the negative things such as over reliance or non-independence, lack of ability to think critically, everything can be solved with money, no tenacity to try etc… then it will haunt the parents eventually. It is easy to fix difficulty in schoolwork but it is hard to fix warp mindset and attitude.

Tution fee of S$6k/mth is too extreme. I rather pay myself to teach to my kid. 😛

Is there really a problem with our education system or is it more the mindset of the parents?

I put more $$ in my kids’ physical activities like swimming and dancing than in tuition for them, and readin articles like these trigger a fear factor that I am not doing enough for my kids academically and it takes a lot of conscious effort to not fall into that trap …

Now … I am not so sure … but my kids are happy, balanced in work and play. Should I be too concern?

I guess if this topic can generate so much heat and \"tsk tsk tsk\" from parents here, we can only conclude and be thankful it's only the minority that will go to extreme.

Most parents till opt for middle ground. 😄 Anyway, how many have such resources to throw in for the kid? Esp if it's more than 1 kid.

I'm sure you're not the only parent who's concerned. Me too.
Should we do more, do less, do nothing?
I'll just take this as a reference on the future challenges.
Hope common sense prevail when it's my turn.

I find this parents blogger gives a balanced view on the advantages and disadvantages of home tuition vs tuition centre.

                        http://parenting-talk.blogspot.com/2012/03/which-is-better-home-tuition-vs-tuition.html

Personally, I think tuition is money well spent, if its not too expensive. Certainly not $6000 a month.
