for Phrase 2A and Phrase 2B, there are 2 days to register, for Phrase 2C, 3 days. Hence there are parents who will wait til the last day to register after weighing their chances..

When you said 50 77...that means. For that 50 vacancies, there are 77 applicants and 46 applicants stayed < 1km or 1 to 2km and got into the school without the need to ballot. For the balance 4 seats, 31 parents stayed > 2km and hence need to ballot, that is why the chances were only 1/8, risky, 31 applicants for that 4 vacancies

Let say, for eg; if there are 77 applicants for that 50 vacancies. 50 out of the 77 applicants stayed < 1km so all 50 vacancies will go to them. For the remaining 27 applicants, they don't even get a chance to ballot. School will has a white board showing how many applicants stayed < 1 km, 1 to 2km and > 2km so parents can decide whether they have a chance or not. MOE figure will only show you the total number of applicants versus total number of seats, MOE will not break down the < 1km, 1 to 2km and > 2km applicants for you. Hope my explanation helps 😉
Home distance for St Gab's is more than 2km....but i still hope I can get him into SJIJ at 2B..do you think its worth a try??

        Any stats for this year?

        Stats for SJIJ

        http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/novena

2b more than 2km, could be likely a tough option, 30 plus applicant versus 4 slots, 1/8 of a chance.

St Gabriel will be almost sure for 2b.

One way is to monitor during phase 2b and only apply on the 2nd day after you assess the chances between the two school. Lower the chance of SJIJ will mean opting for st Gabriel. 2c is out for SJIJ for >2km.

        Hi,

what do you mean - 30 plus applicant versus 4 slots, 1/8 of a chance. I thought the stats for SJIJ was as follows:

        P2B day 2 (19 July 2011)

vacancy for P2B, no. of children registered

sorted by the difference between (no. of children registered - Vacancies for P2B).

        St.Joseph’s 50 77
See thread history of the phase 2b this year:

        http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=487&start=290

        If I don't remember wrongly,

Total available slots for phase 2b is 50.

No. Of applicants for 1km and those from 1-2km:46 (cannot recall the split amongst the two distance)
        No. Of applicants >2km:31
Total applicant for the phase b is 77

For those within 2km, will take up 46 slots, whilst left 4 slots for the remaining 31 applicants.

        Hope it explains and helps.

Do read up some write up for new comer to the forum at the sticky thread. Most of us learn from a lot of reading and need to prep ourselves.

          dear everyone,

i am trying to relocate with my family to sg next year. Was wondering if this 1 km theory really work? I am not too familiar with localities but i would like to stay somewhere near novena (as it is near my office) and was wondering any recommendations on schools? I realised there aren’t that many near the vicinity. Any sound advice is appreciated.

Go for PV if u r sure of SCGS. U got to know e school in advance & build rapport with the teachers. Get to see how they interact with kids. There r lot more commitment as GRL

i think PV easier, bec clock hour by hour get the job done! Is a matter of getting the task done. But limit to one school.

I will go for grassroots. If your kid is diligent and bright, you no need build rapport with others, people will automatically come to build rapport with you. And the school activities and programs are well communicated over their website. As for grassroots, you are serving the community and It will give you wider insights. You know about national issues and able to bring up issues fr discussion. It all depends on what role you want to play eg. Active role or inactive. Doing pv you are dealing with kids so need patience and must have passion. Anyway it is up to you.

Your wife is in the km grassroots but can you confirm that your wife will 100% get the letter to register for p1 under phase 2b?

If your wife is not able to get letter, then better pv.
