Your exact reply was 'He did ok.' So open in your sharing hor.
:rotflmao: :rotflmao: did I give any answer ? :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
But in my defence, you're the only person I asked here in KSP - because I knew that your ds did extremely well.

Hey babyblissnz, are you related to this guy called 3Boys? How come your England so cheem? I catch no ball leh.
I've learnt a new word too - schadenfreude.babyblissnz:
That was the reason I started this topic - to find out why they cared so much. I guess I can smell some sort of schadenfreude? Any other interpretation?
BTW, I do my best not to stand out and never brag about anything really; scratch that, ahem, I mean I don't have anything to brag about.
Your friends were overly curious I have to say. Maybe all three are in the same gossip club? Take heart. Not all parents are like that.

Like most parents have already told you, they're trying to make small talk and really no harm. My next door neighbour loves to ask me questions, \"going out?\", where to?,etc...... and most of the time, I'll say, yes.... and walk very fast to avoid answering more.
Once I took the lift with a neighbor.. He was in his swimming trunk (only), dripping wet all over.. I asked \"Just came from the pool?\", and he answered politely \"Yes\".. Then there was silence in the air.. I broke the uncomfortable silence and asked \"Forgot your towel?\", and he answered politely again \"Yes\". Then the lift reached the floor on which I stayed, and I scurried off, feeling really silly!!! :siao:
Sometimes, we ask questions not coz we are Kay-Poh. Many a times, we already know the answers to our questions (where else could my neighbor come back from in his swimming trunk.. the market, or the library???), but we just blurt out the questions without giving it much thought, or just to make small talks, and end up asking silly questions!!!   -

that is more kaypoh parents than kiasu parents ? :rotflmao: :rotflmao:Beansprout:
This is part of our culture you need to adapt and learn how to manage your response. We are all members of kiasuparents henceforth i think we are all curious about each other as well eg. kids academic performances, where your kids are studying, which tuition centers do they go and etc. However, we normally ask such questions more tactfully so as not to sour the relationship.
If you choose to come here then need to adapt to our culture. -

Dawnie:
Jialat this wan! :shock:Neighbour A : \"Oh, you are pregnant. Boy or girl?\"
Neighbour B : \"Girl\"
Neighbour A : \"I'm sorry to hear that, but you are still young, can try again next time.\" :spank:
That was what my colleague encountered. If someone ever ask me the above, I'm sure to tell her off
Daring hor! :nunchuk: -

Muaacks girl!
Thanks for the helpful advice, buds! I couldn't stop smiling at your step by step approach! I would stand with my hands on the hips, roll my eyes, and roar at the one who doesn't back off(excuse me!) easily. Now my poor P2 kid is their easy target. He is sometimes stopped by aunties and gets barrage of questions. Some mum who we don't know directly went to him and asked about PSLE score of his brother. Why?? :frustrated:buds:
Chin up yeah girl? PSLE is but only the beginning of our children's academic marathon.. most times people get over it in due time n no one cares abt who scored what and who went where.. :hugs:
My uncle used to work in Singapore many years ago. He talked about his fond memories of the country and doesn't believe what I have been through. He didn't have school-aged children back then, maybe that's why. Or has Singapore changed drastically in the past 20 years? I came in Singapore pretty relaxed but have been baptized with Kiasuism. You're right. I need to come to terms with it and move on. My heart is much lighter, thanks to you!
Glad that you're lightened up now.
Addoi! :slapshead: Your P2 oso not spared uh? :skeptical:
That wan, just tell him whoever approaches in any direction
asking the who's.. how's.. and what's.. just say dunno. If cannot
run... then uhh... just cry helplessly loud. Aunties sure panic.
Tsk tsk.. too much hor some ppl.. Eh, suggest you pepper your schadenfreude-like
interpretations with some Singlish so u may not stand out too much.
You got me in the gut with your \"baptized\" admission! :rotflmao:
Try not to get sucked in! :hugs: -
Actually the description of those friends are quite unlike the typical Singaporeans. Or maybe we are really changing. I always thought most of us tend to mind our own business until we are directly affected then a lot of noise will come from us.
Most of us hardly know our neighbours by name. Gone are the days when we can depend on a neighbour to keep an eye on our kids while we run an errand. Gone are the days where the doors of the flats are kept open and neighbours pop in to chat. These days, most doors are kept closed if it is open it is the maids who are doing the chatting. -
buds:
Soli soli, expats' England definitely better than my Singlish.

I got tongue-cramp just trying to pronounce that word ... sch..a...den...freude? Ouch!
babyblissnz, just joking, hope you don't mind.
