Hi Hi,.. we do drive up quite often.. so here's my contributions


1) The touch n go card can be bought from the checkpoint, at tuas I believe. U can top up on the spot when u buy, the last time I went, there was 1 counter were u can top up like our cashcard machine. But please CHECK if u get the person to top up for u. My husband bought a few the last time for our holiday with frens.. The guy took the money but only topped up 2 cards out of 4.. :x

2) Tuas is more expensive, but it's easier and more direct. Esp if u have not driven in before, and are not aggressive driver, Woodlands can be quite daunting.

3) like hquek said, follow the ways of driving there and don't speed. be prepared like knowing where's your exits and where u can rest. not all rest stops sell food. So u may wanna plan first.

4) We have never used GPS, always maps. But please buy the latest map as Malaysian roads change very often. Unless you are very familar with the roads, the changes can be confusing

5) one of the budget hotels in KL i always recommend is the Dorsett.. clean, no frills, good location to walk to Berjaya times sq and the malls on Bt Bintang. Further down near capitol hotel etc, may be very rowdy esp at night. N just for info, Capitol hotel do not have their own parking. ALways double check ya. Dorsett regency I always book on their website or Asiatravel.com should be around your budget, with free parking. Their twin rooms are 2 queen size beds too.. good if u have children.

6) Personally i find that there is nothing much at Chinatown, I usually shop the most at Sungei Wang and Lot 10. If u have isetan card, must bring, can get discount at their isetan. ANd I always eat at Jln ALor, very cheap and good.. there are a few recommended stalls, can google to find out. The Shao bao is very good too.. it's the baked bao. ANd the carrot cake is not bad. so is the chicken wings and tze char .. oh I'm drooling liao..

7) have not gone to the farms before, but you may find it very rushed to squeeze too many things in your trip. For the berjaya times sq theme park, must check with the counter if there are any exhibits closed BEFORE u buy the entrance. The last few times I went, the roller coaster is closed.

Driving on the highway is quite relaxing but do be careful when you are overtaking. Lots of cars like to speed so at times when you are are overtaking the car in front, suddenly u can see one car right at your boot. :!:

GPS is useful especially when you are in the city/town area itself. .


In KL, my husband likes to go to Petaling Street. Thats the place where they sell lots of fake stuffs, LV to Rolex... with different grades.. :shock:

The stalls are mend by \"gangsters\" so be careful. The rule is, if you want to buy, ask for the price, if it doesn't suit you then just say thank you and go. If you bargain, until very low, then make sure you buy if not they will get agitated. :x

You may get to Tengkera from Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock (Heeren Street). If you're coming from Old Melaka town, it will only take you about 5 to 10 minutes.

....i can't recall the charges offhand but tuas is about double? And coming back, woodlands is FOC, but tuas checkpoint got to pay n pay.

Touch N Go card can also be topped up at one of the Toll Gates. Those with the sign \"Tambah Nilai\" (simply means top up value). It's very convenient.

Going thru Tuas (2nd link) will costs you in the following order S$4.20 + RM10.80 + RM3.20 + RM40.90 (to exit Sungei Besi toll in KL). And coming back will be the reverse order.

Hii alll I am thinking of taking a 3-4 day break with many kids. After reading some threads it seems that there is monsoon weather in KK.

Any suggestions where to bring the kids to ,I am choosing between LKG and KL now .. anyone knows hows the weather going to be in KL or Langkawi ...some ppl are telling me that it is raining heavily in KL as well. please advise. :?

Thanks. Any particular restaurant name and any activities nearby for family with young kids?

Last time we went Pangarang, the 6 lobsters + 2crabs + fish + oyster egg + few veg + noodle + horfun for about 8 adult 8 kids come up to about MYR400 only (you cant get this price in S’pore…my mouth drooling already). Cant remember the restaurant name(think it’s Jade) but they’re famous for their lobster salad (need 1 day advance order) and many cylist come here as well.
