WeiHan:
She may need liver specialist to diagnose her case as you said her appearance is not too good.My niece is fully awake watching cartoon and asking for milk milk, pancake and going home.
The doctor said that she can start taking half bottle milk today and maybe porridge can start tomorrow. However, the cause of the live isn't ascertained yet even though the liver has recover partial function. the yellowish skin seems worse than yesterday. Anybody knows how long will it take to subside? -
Hope your niece is feeling much better…
Do get a second opinion when seeking treatment, just to playsafe… -

Hi WeiHan, hope your niece is feeling better. You and your family members take care too.

As parents, we need to be alert with our kids condition and feedback or take action where necessary. Please never leave it to the hospital and believe they will be in good hands. Hospital is big and doctors are merely following procedures and symptoms obvious to them. We cannot totally trust them.
Yeah (the words in bold), many times I feel this way too. -
WeiHan - all the best to your niece!

Hi,
Thankyou everybody for the concern and advises.
I just came back from the hospital.
There is a liver specialist appointed to care my niece. I manage to catch the specialist as he came. They are currently doing all the tests to find out the causes for the liver malfunctioning. These includes testing for hep A, B,C, viruses, and the whole spectrum of bacterias and other conditions that may cause it and they ruling out some possibilities one by one and that is why it takes time. They even rope in an infectious disease specialist but so far no cause has been determined yet. However, not able to pin point the cause doesn’t mean that the patient will not recover for the case of liver. they said, for liver disease, 40-50% of cases can’t determine the cause of damage but patients nevertheless recovered.
For my niece, it is an acute case and not chronic. They are doing two blood tests daily. These are mainly to monitor the quantitative indicators in the blood which point to the health of the liver. The few most important indicators are, ammonia level, billirubin level, PT level and one more which I can’t remember. My niece’s level for the above parameters have been stable to slightly lowering. Once the liver starts repairing itself, the above parameters level should drop drastically and we should know in the next few days since her level is stabilising and should be a good sign. If it worsened, then a liver transplant will be needed.
For now, we are cautiously optimistic but my sister get worried with any words such as "acute", "critical" etc… -
Since I started the thread, I’ll give a brief account of the progress.
My niece condition is improving judging from the time that she is awake and the objective parameters that are measured from the blood tests.
Basically, all the major parameters indicating liver injury have started to come down (meaning improving liver condition). These parameters are still high by normal standard but the start of a reduction and her length of awake time is unmistaken sign that her liver is restoring its health.
We are all relief. -
