Is Groupon a scam?

Oppsgal, i received mail from the giftshop(the agent tt;s suppose to arrange for delivery) she said my canvas is ready n waiting for deliver that was 1 week ago, i sent her another mail, no reply till now since Friday… Groupon was in loop, but no action taken by them at all. they just said groupon voucher were redeemed but the problem is we have yet to receive the goods… quality aside, it’s super lousy !!

I think they are just doing a business, without thinking about their customers. I am not buying from them anymore.


I stil haven’t heard from them about my canvas order. Now i know it is just a paper printout. I am so not going to buy from groupon anymore.

I purchase from Groupon very often and here’s some advice:

1. If purchasing food/dining deals, call to make a reservation BEFORE you make your purchase on Groupon. Also, make the appt to USE IT ASAP, before the ‘Groupon crowd’ hits them. Once it hits them, food and service quality DROPS.

2. If purchasing goods, only go for big brands or well known shops. For example, recently I bought some deals on photobooks. They have Photobook.com.sg and Vistaprint.com.sg. Personally, before I bought the deal, I have seen the quality of both companies and I know Photobook.com.sg is of very very very good quality. Once I saw it, bought 5 at a go! $48 for a $161 photobook. Worth every cent!

3. For services (e.g. hair, facial, photography), think hard. For hair, facial and spa deals, high likelihood, you can’t get an appointment. I’m free most weekday mornings when the ‘crowd’ is supposed to be lesser and still couldn’t get appointments! And worst of all - I didn’t get the Groupon deal, it was my regular facial salon. -_-
For photography, do your research well. I bought one from ZX Photography and LOVE IT TO THE MAX! $25 for 1 hour of outdoor shoot. He’s so professional, we got 400+ photos in that 1 hour (around 15min was spent walking). My boys looked sooooooooo good! And he was extremely good at getting my boy to pose for him.
Of course, I went to his Facebook page to take a look at the photos and searched online for feedback before we decided on it.
Initially, he was OVERWHELMED by bookings. Too many Groupon deals purchased and he couldn’t cope (1 man show). However, he’s very nice. He informed everyone and gave us options: 1. Refund (he will inform Groupon on the list of people who wants a refund). 2. He will honour the deal thought the appointment will be past the ‘used by’ date. I took up the 2nd option and no regrets. Good customer service and great photos.

I too bought the canvas print. I submitted my photos in March and has been waiting patiently. Now I am worried after reading the feedback. So far I don’t have problems when I purchase restaurant, manicure and hair treatment vouchers.

Me too, so far no prob. At the restaurants, I don’t feel being treated differently too. Perhaps, when getting groupon deals, we need to consider the reputation of the vendor. I almost bought the photo deal. Had I bought, I would be upset with the delay too…

So far so good for me in getting deals. I am now a regular although got to be selective

Beware some especially those on hair care saloon. My friend got one that says 3 treatment for $50. Turn out to all 3 "treatment" at one go in 1 visit. must check properly

Ok, I redeemed my rebonding groupon Liao. Thumbs up - for the service attitude of the staff. Skill and material used- so so only. But the folks were nice to me, when they knew I was in a hurry to pick my child, the three of them quickly stand by to blow dry my hair. Even under time pressure, the main stylist did not do a shoddy job on cutting my hair. But I think I won’t buy rebonding groupon again - it’s too risky. Besides they give you the cheapest material, then ask you to add on, add on. The good thing is this salon didn’t hard sell. I said no, and it was the end of it. They didn’t pressure me,

I have gotten alot of deals from them. SO far so good! hoping to get more great deals! =D
