You get some rest and take care of yourself too. The past few days must have been tough on you. -
For me, whenever the old one expire, I will get 2-3 from my GP. I never get to use it (thankfully), but was glad I had it and gave it to my neighbor when her son has high fever. He had fever for few days and yet his doc said it is normal every time she brought him to the clinic !! Luckily my worried neighbor came to talk to me. I told her it is not normal and to see my doctor. I gave her suppository and that did bring down the fever for that night. Taking my advise, my neighbor brought her son to KK that night after suppository effect wore off and fever returned. He was immediately admitted and hospitalized for about 2 wks. Diagnosed with pneumonia. Sometimes, must have 2nd opinion.

Yes, agreed! No harm seeking a second opinion if the child is still not getting better after 2-3 days. -
Pls note that medicines like Voltaren and Nurofen are NSAIDS and some pple can be allergic to them. Always use paracetamol (panadol, calpol, dhamol) first.

When I first read this thread some time ago, I felt 9 days is unusual and I will go for second opinion rather just self medicate. But I understand every parent feels differently. However I’ve just been told of a child who died suddenly after a week of fever. Doctor is still trying to ascertain the actual cause. Apparently there was nothing seemingly unusual about the fever, just that it won’t go away. If you feel uneasy, just go for a second opinion with a good pd, not just a convenient pd.
I recently brought my son to a nearby pd for rashes but felt her diagnosis and recommended management plan was wrong and took him for a second opinion. The second pd referred us to yet another pd with specialisations who managed it well. -
I trust my intuition a lot. If I feel that something is just not right after administering the medication to my child, I just go for a second opinion. Call me gan jiong but I would rather be safe than sorry. And 9 days is really too long for a fever to persist.

As we have trained personnel in the family, we will usually self medicate first and bring fever down quickly. If that doesn’t work for 2 days, I will go to the PD for very young kids and or to my trusty family doc for the older kids.
There is a time limit for effective self medication. 2 to 3 days max. No effect pls see PD. But if you can’t even bring down the fever with paracetamol and sponging ie. temp doesn’t go down at all after medication within the space of a day and kid is lethargic, please see the doc immediately. -
If temp hits 39 and above, straight to kk. I would call to make sure the dr my kids have been seeing is on duty before going there.
While med takes at least 2 days to work, I would seek 2nd opinion for the peace of mind.
My experiences with a few gp over the last 1.5 years have not been that great. -
Think there was a discussion somewhere before about A&E..
I've had bad experiences at Parkway East and Changi..
Really need :xedfingers: ..
