      mummy so kiasu:
      janet_lee88:

Son's teachers used other lessons to teach core subject..provided they are same teachers teaching. For eg, his Chinese teacher may also teach social studies. My son's teacher used Science subject lessons to teach Math...it's been like this for the past few weeks. Son misses Science.

A big relief - the oral exams are over today...can move on to prepare for compo next. I've observed that many parents do not cook during exam period. Even my mum said supermarket is empty as families eat out and rush home. Quite true bcos cooking does require preparation and washing up.

Using Science lessons to teach Math? What about those who are weak in Science? Science is also a core subject. Some kids might have forgot their P3- P5 concepts. A lot of revision need to be done. In fact, I think my boy does not have enough Science lessons, most of the periods are allocated to English lessons.

      Teachers cater to the mass.
Parents/tutors cater to the individual 😉

Yup, science is a core subject too…and that is a subject which is hard to score. Maths is a ‘practice’ subject…but science requires technique.

Actually, these 4 subjects are not easy…especially language papers. Fail English, and that means fail everything. Don’t understand English means don’t understand maths and science.

My child is currently in a small tution group of 2 to 4 students taught by a ex-teacher. We also tried the tution centre. We also know the strategy of annotation etc. However, the marks still can't improve. Anyone has any advice? Can someone recommend a 1-to-1 home tutor?

            Time is running out.... 😞
            for which subject?

If school gives past year paper, it is not a waste of time doing...the prob is when to get them done, and whether teachers give correct answers and explain them in OE section. This week, the kids are having Oral. Btw, oral exams have to be prepared, not just sit there and yak whatever comes to mind.

Honestly, kids should NOT be given any hw these 2 weeks.
Right now, it's whether which is more important - time management or getting homework done ???
Some kids do not take naps in the afternoon, so by 930pm, it is understandable they are tired.
worst my dd's teacher provide them with answer, want them to do marking themselves. What's the point of loading homework without going thru with the students. Sometimes I really hope less homework so she can start doing revision for PSLE

                    Hi 24hr_mum,

This seems to be the norm that teachers will just flash the answers on the screen or just give them the answer sheet without the run through. They cited \"no time\" cos rushing thought the syllabus. So what I do is to get my DD to look through those questions that she did wrong and understand why she could not secure the marks for the answers. Those Maths questions that she got it wrong, we will re-do it again on another exercise book.

                        Hi mummies,

Are your kids done with oral and compo yet ?
Mine was done with oral last week…2moro EL compo.

For SA1, I heard some schools set exam papers almost like PSLE. My son’s school sets such tough standard that it is demoralizing. So I tell myself not to bother and stress myself over the grades.
