Many parents complained about late nights but I see, at about 8pm plus, children shopping with their parents, having meals in hawker centers, cafes, running around in libraries, having tuition classes which end at 930 pm all on school nights.

I know of children who will watch the 9pm chinese drama every nights with their family…so sleep at about 10 plus 11.

IMO, even if school is to start at 9 am, as long as the parents let the kids sleep late, no matter how late the school starts, it is still too early for some.

My dd can’t sleep early cos of her workload. But I make sure my ds sleeps before 930 on school nights. I don’t take them out on these nights nor do I send them for tuition at night.

Now I am bringing forward bedtime for ds. Initially he was unable to sleep before 9, now 845 and he is asleep.

i try to let my kids go to bed latest by 9.30pm, so that they can have theoratically 8 hours sleep since they need to wake up at 5.30am to catch 6.10am school bus and reach school at around 7.10am.

my 9.30 fails more and more frequently this year since p6 homework getting more and more. we don’t eat out; my kids don’t do shopping with parents; my p6 girl has one cca on friday; her school ends 1.30pm and the shool bus brings her home around 2.30pm; she has one tuition on sunday 1pm-2pm.

i write more and feel sad more, for my kids and all

Wait till they are in sec school. Most, and I say most, probably sleep very late.

As long as kids have 8 hours of sleep daily, I am fine. Unfortunately when come to sec school, this is never happening.

i guess 8 hours' sleep for kids is not enough...

8 hours is already 天方夜谭,not to mention more hours for teens. Project work is a killer which take up sooooo much time. Of course I still nag a lot to my dd to sleep early.

Say a P1 kid should have 10 hours of sleep, according to a recent article in the ST. If the kid has to wake up at 6am for school, this means he has to be in bed by 8pm. How many working parents actually get home by 8pm every night, let alone leaving office at 8pm?

So sacrifice sleep or sacrifice bonding time with child? Or leave bonding time to weekends or one of the parents has to become SAHP?? What about those parents who need to coach child on school work? Outsource to tuition centres?

I am for schools to start later, unless there is a shift in mindsets about leaving office at 6pm.

 The kids work harder than us adults :? Go study in school, still got to do cca, home still have homework. Weekends still no time to play.

5.30am really early! I am still :snooze:

If bring home salary already so low, where got money outsource to tuition centres? I think the best will be quit job to coach own kid personally, as kid's personal tutor.  But some people will look down on people who have no job. :nunchuk:

I prefer schools to start later too. Probably 9am to 3pm or 4pm. For remedial or CCA, have it before 9am 😉

Parents work so hard to bring money home…now an additional thing to pay - the enrichment centers/tutors to make sure kids pass school exams. It’s hard to leave office on the dot as bosses are unhappy. Working parents eat out with their kids…and reach home close to 9. After bath, it’s like 930/10.

Many working parents get to sleep only past midnight after settling kids in bed.

If kids start school later, it upsets the morning ritual for bus drivers and working parents.
