Need help on the below math question.

What is the shortest way to solve it without listing down the sequence?

Q-
A group of children shared some candy canes at a party. If each child was given 1 candy cane, 80 candy canes would be left. If each child was given 4 candy canes, 8 candy canes would be left. How many children were at the party?

Mr Zaini has a carton containing some red and green apples. If he adds in 10 red apples, 0.6 of the number of apples in the carton will be green apples. If he adds in 30 green apples, 3/4 of the number of apples in the carton will be green apples. How many apples are there in the carton?

My attempt, not the best method.

Difference in candy cane =4-1= 3 candy canes.
Total number of candy canes redistributed (80 - = 72
72/3 = 24
There are 24 children at the party.

Mrs lee spent 1/2 of her money on some almond cookies and 2/5 of the remaining money on 6 slices of butter cookies. Each slice of butter cookie costs thrice as much as one almond cookie. How many almond cookies did she buy?

after adding 10 red apples,
Green : Red --> 3 units : 2 units

number of apples,
Green : Red --> 3 units : 2 units - 10 (Total --> 5 units -10)

if 30 green apples added,
Green : Red --> 3 units + 30 : 1 unit + 10 (3:1)
number of apples,
Green : Red --> 3 units : 1 unit + 10 (Total--> 4 units + 10)

Comparing red apples (or compare total number):
1 unit + 10 = 2 units - 10
1 unit --> 20

Total number of apples --> 4 x 20 + 10 = 90

Hi I need help on the following question, particularly on how to solve and get the answer for part (b).


Mrs Tan bought 4 times as many toy guns as teddy bears. She spent $1750 altogether. A toy gun cost $10 less than a teddy bear. The total cost of toy guns was $490 more than the total cost of teddy bears.
(a) how much did Mrs Tan spend on the teddy bears?
(b) How much did one teddy bear cost?

Don't really understand how 3 units + 30 : 1 unit +10? become 3 units : 1 unit + 10?

Q1) Jame had some stickers. She gave 18 stickers to her sister and 5/7 of the stickers to Mary. Then, she used 3/4 of the remainder for her project and had 35 stickers left. How many sisters did she have at first?

Q2) Ali , Bala and Carl shared 90 marbles. If Ali gave 6 marbles to Bala, Bala gave 2 marbles toCarl and after that Carl gave 1/4 of what he had then to Ali, the three boys will have the same number of marbles in the end. How many more marbles than Ali did Carl have?

this is becos if 30 green apples are added ratio becomes 3:1
what MathIzzFun is doing is making the units the same with the first ration
therefore if 30 green apples are added, green apples are 3units + 30
red apples should be 1 unit +10

not sure if this helps
