Last paper today. Son had his tooth extracted…school nurse refused to extract earlier as she was worried there might be complications. He is happily playing his WII now, after bath and quick lunch.

My son's classmate is having tuition at the centre. He is doing quite well in class, but I don't know whether is it with the help of the tutors or he is just clever.

Thinking of enrolling my son in the same centre. Do you have any to recommend in Jurong area ?

After piling them wif Math hw last wk, ds T only provide ans during class, no workings for mcq given & selected paper 2 qns only! Reason: no time. Haiz… do hw is not = revision. Shd hv let him do my hw then, but I kia-si mentality. Hw=must do if poss. But then, my P5 dd no such issues leh.

My son's vocab is not that fantastic either...I make him practise vocab in assessment book, as well as synthesis & cloze. I use separate titles bcos all-in-1 may not have those areas he is weak in.

Now that SA is over, I guess popular will be crowded before school hols. Time to reinforce and strengthen during this long period of 'no school' (can't say holiday bcos it isn't).

How about spelling? My boy always gets the spelling wrong. He uses his phonics on parts that cannot be phonetically decoded. Eg. saliva is spelt "saliver". Any tips to solve this problem?

DD got full marks for vocab MCQ by doing elimination. So it's partly strategy.

I also print out vocab lists from various sites - do a google and choose vocab list for 7th grade upwards. I zoom in on words she doesn't know.

I also have a board - just an A4 paper - set up in the living room. Both DD and I add words that we come across in the news, books etc. She checks the meanings on the ipad. We've been doing this since she was in P4.
