P4 SA1 Results
-
yvetan,
You’re right. From what I know, one grandma told me his grandchild had group tuition and on top of that 1 to 1 tuition for a certain subject (for more than 1 day per week) but still did not do well in that subject. Tuition does not guarantee anything, even parents coaching too, a lot depends on the child. -
Strongly agree that alot depends on the kid’s attitude, if the kid is least motivated to learn, it makes no difference even when given the best resources.

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: I like the analogy of grade dropping like share price.

Vja,
I assume your girl is in p4. Your dd grades are pretty good. Don’t worry. Usually school sets higher SA1 to wake parents up (don’t expect children to mature enough), we then kiasu and work harder.
So is better to compare them against classmates to know the average scores. -
Thanks my children n new user for encouragement.
I think it boils down to effort that i had put in.
Hope tis is a wake up call for my gal n manage my expectation. -
Dd1’s results are not out yet for Eng and MT. Still waiting for listening compre and compo marks.
Science 91
Math 84
Only send her for MT tuition, the rest she "self-study". Honestly, I’m quite disappointed in her math result because I know she can do better (judging from her day-to-day schoolwork and mock/practice paper from school.
Instead of studying for exam, she’s forever reading books borrowed from the library. She loves to read but sometimes, I find she reads too much. Read while walking, on the bus, in the toilet and even in the midst of doing her homework. I’m unhappy with her attitude. She doesn’t see the importance of exam and do not know her priorities.
As for Science, I’m happy she scored above 90. -
Blessed Homemaker:
your dd loves to read...so she is probably quite strong in her English?Dd1's results are not out yet for Eng and MT. Still waiting for listening compre and compo marks.

i was disappointed in my boy's MT results. after analysing the paper, postmortem (with our tutor) we felt that he did fine (within his own standards) although he could have got those wrong answers correct if he had exercise a bit of logic in selection of answers :stupid: (our tutor disagreed with how certain sentence structure was tested and marked in the paper
, and we agreed with her analysis).

She is quite strong in English but too imaginery, thus leading her compo to be off-topic most of the time. She writes a novel, not a compo during exam
Her MT is quite weak, esp on sentence construction and comprehension. That's why we sent her for tuition. Based on our own calculation, her MT is prob 74. Can't imagine if we didn't send her for tuition...
Eg for sentence construction

My son scores 88 for maths and 86 for SC. Will you be worry if the FT tells you this:-
"He is in a stretch class. Yes, he got Band 1 but he is at the bottom band 1. Compare to his classmates, his score is at 22nd position (total class no. 38). He has to work on his attitute."
We know he has this "tidak apa" attitude since P1. Had been trying REAL hard to correct him… lecture after lecture… still the same at this age.
Will you be worry and what will you do? Start looking around for tuition? -
KS_me,
Tuition won't solve the main problem if attitude is the real issue. I've attitude problem with my 2nd boy. In fact, I'm worried for him. Still learning on how to handle him as we know that every child is unique, every child has the potential to do well. Its just that we need to figure it out how it works for each different child.
My 1st DS, I just leave him alone most of the time. My 2nd DS is totally different, so take time to understand the child and work along with him. More important is to train him to fish himself, meaning to be an independent learner.
I am still learning.....
Marks at this moment is not so important to me at this moment for this kid, more important is to tune his character and attitude and I believe that with this done, the rest will be an easy task.
This is my point of view.
