Dd1’s results are not out yet for Eng and MT. Still waiting for listening compre and compo marks.

        Science 91
        Math 84

Only send her for MT tuition, the rest she "self-study". Honestly, I’m quite disappointed in her math result because I know she can do better (judging from her day-to-day schoolwork and mock/practice paper from school.

Instead of studying for exam, she’s forever reading books borrowed from the library. She loves to read but sometimes, I find she reads too much. Read while walking, on the bus, in the toilet and even in the midst of doing her homework. I’m unhappy with her attitude. She doesn’t see the importance of exam and do not know her priorities.

As for Science, I’m happy she scored above 90.

your dd loves to read...so she is probably quite strong in her English?
i was disappointed in my boy's MT results. after analysing the paper, postmortem (with our tutor) we felt that he did fine (within his own standards) although he could have got those wrong answers correct if he had exercise a bit of logic in selection of answers :stupid: (our tutor disagreed with how certain sentence structure was tested and marked in the paper 🤷, and we agreed with her analysis).

She is quite strong in English but too imaginery, thus leading her compo to be off-topic most of the time. She writes a novel, not a compo during exam

Her MT is quite weak, esp on sentence construction and comprehension. That's why we sent her for tuition. Based on our own calculation, her MT is prob 74. Can't imagine if we didn't send her for tuition...

            Eg for sentence construction
            知道:我知道了。

            Can die!

My son scores 88 for maths and 86 for SC. Will you be worry if the FT tells you this:-

"He is in a stretch class. Yes, he got Band 1 but he is at the bottom band 1. Compare to his classmates, his score is at 22nd position (total class no. 38). He has to work on his attitute."

We know he has this "tidak apa" attitude since P1. Had been trying REAL hard to correct him… lecture after lecture… still the same at this age.

Will you be worry and what will you do? Start looking around for tuition?

                KS_me,

Tuition won't solve the main problem if attitude is the real issue. I've attitude problem with my 2nd boy. In fact, I'm worried for him. Still learning on how to handle him as we know that every child is unique, every child has the potential to do well. Its just that we need to figure it out how it works for each different child.
My 1st DS, I just leave him alone most of the time. My 2nd DS is totally different, so take time to understand the child and work along with him. More important is to train him to fish himself, meaning to be an independent learner.
                I am still learning.....
Marks at this moment is not so important to me at this moment for this kid, more important is to tune his character and attitude and I believe that with this done, the rest will be an easy task.
This is my point of view. 🙏

                  KS_me,

I agree with Bluebelt, "Tuition won’t solve the main problem if attitude is the real issue." "Marks are not so important to me at this moment, most important is to tune the character and attitude and I believe that with this done, the rest will be an easy task."

I personally feel that a boy who is smart but lazy will not be able to score very good marks if he don’t work hard but an average boy who is willing to work hard can eventually score very well.
Sometimes I do feel the pressure when my dd’s teacher said "your daughter needs to put in more effort as she’s in the best class, she can do it… blah blah…"

The FT is very good and gives alot of encouragement but my dd always disappoint him.
she’s used to score 90+ for all subjects and always top the class until this SA1, her results dropped alot except for Math.

I noticed that her character has changed thus causing her change of attitude. Can you imagine that from the top 3 position, she dropped to the middle or maybe the last? Can you feel the disappointment?

I am disappointed not because of the marks or position, it’s the attitude. If she’s hardworking and the results are still not good, I can accept it but her results dropped because she’s very lazy not that she’s stupid. (btw she doesn’t have tuition at all)

                    My DD also in P4.

School like to set higher standard.
I don’t know why and make every student
drop in their marks. Wake up call? Sian:(
I agree that when it comes to maths,
esp topics like fractions and whole numbers, area and perimeter,
it’s best to do some p5 problem sums to prepare better.
Moreover in p5, marks going to drop even more.
So better prepare now if the child is able.
Generally, I think good students do
a year ahead of their peers, so that they can score.

Hi Mychildren and yvetan2020, I couldn’t agree with you more. IT IS THE ATTITUTE!!! I just spoken to my neighbour and she told me that her son changed his attitute only at age 15!! my god! do I have to wait till then?? Really not sure what to do to correct his attitutes. I even ever consider to send him to those mindage… mindchamp… or whatever mind thinking if they could do some little "tango" on his attitute… that will be GREAT!!

Hi szepinge, if my boy can finish P4 exercises I'm :rahrah: already. don't even dare to think about P5 stuffs...

Met a mum whom she shared her experience that P5 is the year the school started to load the kids with lots of stuff. P5 also a year that we will see a huge dip in their marks. hearing it already make me :nailbite: :frustrated:
