Wow ! 2 compo per month is fantastic ! My DD's teacher only wrote 3 compo so far since school starts this year ! :faint: So I have to make sure she writes at home for me to go through.
I have my boy's English teacher handphone no. she is his co-form teacher cum HOD. I had SMS her a couple of times. My son's English has improved from 72 (P5,SA2) to 82 (P6,SA1). However, she tends to give a lot of homework & 2 compo per month.
Congrats for your DS' SA1 results.. looks good to me

I didn't get to see both CL & Eng compo. Model essays do not teach anything.august24:
My dc sch will give out model essays to them after getting back their marked compo. They told me no corrections done. So they are all suppose to learn fr model essays!
At least you get something to look at and work on....For us, NOTHING is given back.
By the way, do your kids do annotation? I thought this was supposed to be done by teachers to teach the students. -

But she takes for ever and now she is not doing it. May be I will ask her to try again. I know she does not like to annotate. Ok, another thing to implement. -

Annotation is useful if your child is like mine - she reads too fast.
Annotation forces her to slow down. The notes she scribbles at each para helps her to zoom in on the answers quicky once she gets down to answering the qn.
Her school emphasises on annotations a lot - kids are made to stand if they do not do annotations.
Now it has become 2nd nature to her. -

I agree with this. I taught DS annotation. This forced him to engage in deep reading and to mine for meaning. After a while, he didn't have to annotate anymore because deep reading became 2nd nature. These days, he zoom-annotates-cum-highlights-tag i.e., he does this ONLY for the few very difficult questions. It's tool... a useful tool... to be used with discretion.Annotation is useful if your child is like mine - she reads too fast.

My DS reads fast too and he tends not to refer back to the passage after reading 2 times and answers questions based on his memory. Since we went through some comprehension using annotation after reading tips from this forum, he has been using annotation and manages to score decent marks in his compre and swear by it now.Annotation is useful if your child is like mine - she reads too fast.
