Thermal pot

Haha, me the lazy chop chop fast fast type. Got a few thermos thermal cookers. If the food ain't frozen, I'll just make sure the food hits boiling point, boil few minutes, and chuck it into the outer pot. If I'm boiling frozen stuff, then it's boiled for at least 5 -10 min. Think the rationale for boiling 20min is to allow you to eat the food in 2 hours time. Me, I leave the thermal cookers alone for 6 hours if I want tasty soup. So far so good with the soups. Just \"thermaled\" some pork to death today, no other addition, soup's quite yummy
1) to boil for 20mins, don't really save much energy.
2) simply put the carrot and potatos into the thermal pot, will the taste be out ?
:?
Don't think I've boiled any stuff for 20min unless I want the item(s) to cook fast, by which point i'll be using my rice cooker instead.

We bought a LG 7L thermo pot at the Robinson sales with a free 1.5L one for $120 in October Red Hot sales.Just saw at Metro, LG brand Thermal Pot. However, after listening to the promoter explaning how to use it, I am still not very convinced to buy. LG comes with 2 sizes, 5L ($99) and 7L(>$120, I cannot rem the exact figure).
She was telling me, for cooking pork ribs, carrots, potatos soup, I have to boil the pork ribs soup in high fire, once boil, put to small fire, continue for 20 mins. Then transfer into the thermal pot, add in the carrot and potatos. Unless is pure vegi soup, I can simply put into the thermal pot immediately when the soup boils.
My concern are
1) to boil for 20mins, don't really save much energy.
2) simply put the carrot and potatos into the thermal pot, will the taste be out ?
:?
My wife just brings it to the boil and then just put it into the thermal pot at around 12pm. When she reached home in the evening at 7pm, the soup is still warm and nice to drink already. Perhaps, if you want to consume it in less than 5 hours, then you may need to boil a while more, I guess.
We find this brand pretty good in design and appearance. Quality-wise, the material looks great

A few more questions
1) The soup taste good ? I mean the taste would be out ?
2) Other than soup, anybody tried curry chicken, braised pork, braised chicken wings ?
3) How about mixed rice, eg. cabbage pork rice, yam pork rice ?
4) There are two compartments inside. The promotor told me, can steam egg or steam mince pork for the top compartment, using the heat from the soup below. Anybody tried before ?
If I am to get one, I would cook the soup in the morning, atb 7am. Leave in thermal pot till 7pm when get back from work. So its about 12 hours.
Thanks in advance ! -

Our adventures with thermal pot (which has been serving us faithfully for years):
- Chicken Rice
- Braised pork belly
- \"Fried\" rice -> not really fried, we just dump all the fried rice ingredients inside to cook & mix it before we serve
- All sorts of soup
- My boy's porridge/rice
- Macaroni soup
I must ask my maid what else she cooks with the thermal pot.
It's a life saver for my family cos my boy is very active & my maid has to watch him when we are at home. -
mrswongtution, what brand of thermal pot u using ?

Thermos for both my mum's place and mine
They were housewarming gifts (of cos the thick-skinned me put it on my list of needed items :p)
Even our hot water flask & portable food flask for my boy are Thermos. Bought them during Thermos warehouse sale. Very good. Can keep water & food hot for very very very long. -
daisyt, iām also using Thermos. Can be used to cook all types of grains, not only rice. Just have to go through a bit of trial and error of gauging how much water to use. So far have never tried any adventurous recipes cos Iām not a fussy eater and my kid has no fussy tastebuds. Eh, man of the house refuses to eat my food HAHAHA!
Your food will definitely be cooked from 7am - 7pm, just gotta remember to heat it up again past 70 deg Celcius for hygiene reasons. -
If anyone interested, Thermos BP on at http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/messages/581296/3269460.html?1258724437
And no, i'm not the seller, just interested buyer  -
Hi, Iām looking to buy an 8L Tiger brand magic thermal pot. Went to Taka yesterday and they were selling it at $399 with 10% discount if holding a Taka membership card. Is this the market price or can I get it cheaper elsewhere, or should I wait a little longer for other sales? Thanks for your help!!
