      Suz855:
Error under 'rule of more than, less than' e.g E n F . Thus it isn't so simple after all, πŸ™‚

      I don`t think it is an error Suz855. Let me review E n F.

      E.\t8 less than ____ = 2
      8 - ____ = 2
      *** The answer is 6. 8 - 6 =2

      F.\t____ is 4 less than 10
      ____ = 4 - 10
*** The answer is 6. Its read as 10 - 4. My apologies that i did not state that.

Not to nitpick but the right answer is
        E.\t8 less than 10 = 2

Agree with the others. Answer for E should be 10.

Clarity of concepts is very important. Addition is commutative but subtraction is not. 10 - 4 is not the same as 4 - 10.

Ali has 5 applies. Candy has 3 more apples than him. How many apples do both have altogether ?
*Most of the students will get 8 which is the correct answer. Among those who get correct, there are many of them who had not understand the question and look for key words to determine if they should add or not. In this case, the key word for them is MORE. This is because he is taught that MORE is PLUS.
Thanks for sharing. For above, isnt the answer 13?

Hi my gal has this question from her June Math homework sheet.

Am not sure what it’s asking. Can someone enlighten me please?

"There are 5 red balls and 5 blue balls in a box. If I take out any 6 balls from both boxes, how manybred balls could I have picked?"

I am a little confused… Are the red n blue balls in the SAME box or in 2 boxes? Thought there is something not quite right with the question.

                      Help!

I agree with the answer. But, the Q still seems vague. Will the child understand it is referring to the maximum number of balls? The child can take it as any number of red balls and answer it as 1 for the minimum number of balls?? Assessment book aside, is this a valid question in school tests and exams?

the Q means putting 5 red balls and 5 blue balls in a box (same box)
if u randomly pick up 6 balls from the box, maximum number of red balls that could have pick is 5 red balls and 1 blue balls.

Answer is 5 red balls πŸ™‚
