Can I ask how much is your group therapy session? How many in the class and are they all in the same similar speech delay?

It is about $40 for practice session and $60 (I can't remember exactly) for therapy. Depending on the timing, sometime there are 2 only, sometime as many as 5. I think not every kids has the same problem. I do see some kids who are better in speech than my boy. They normally put the same age group together.

I see. My group therapy so expensive. Its $110. Anyway just give it a try first for one term. maybe will try leo megan for group therapy after this session is done.

my daughter is in P1 this year. her kindergarten principal actually told me to defer her by 1 year, saying that it might help in her social skills development. her OT , SLT and psychologist told me i can let her go mainstream primary 1 , but she has to be given lotsa support from the school, if not pathlight will be another option.

I was caught in a dilemna during that time, was contemplating to defer her? but she will be 1 year behind her peers . Then after serious consideration, i decided to go ahead with enrolling her in mainstream primary 1. I knew that i might be in for some difficult times but told myself, since i have decided, don't look back anymore. My views was that regardless of whether i defer my daughter anot, she will still face the same sensory issues, and social skills problem. She will have to go to primary 1 sooner or later.
I did a lot of preparation also, to prepare her for primary 1, especially on her first day. haha she was very cool on that day , even the allied educator commented that she was so brave and cool like a cucumber. but i am the scary cat there :stupid: peeking at one corner of the canteen to make sure she is ok during the assembly period.
We saw her kindergarten school teachers and principal sometimes when we go shopping at our neighbourhood now and they actually can tell my gal that they missed her alot ! why didn't she stay for one more year? :siao:

But for sure this is not an easy road for us at times. My daughter does get complaints at times from her form teacher, saying that her attention span is short, not attentive enough. but on a positive note, the teacher did commented that she is the \" kai xin guo\" in class, always make the class laugh with her comments and actions. My daughter now has a few good friends in class too whom she hang out during recess time :rahrah:

I am very inspired when I read you both decided to enrol your children into mainstream without any deferment. My son was officially diagnosed at the beginning of K2 this year. Both my husband and myself have firmly decided to enrol him in P1 which is happening next month. We just started his SLT and OT and is beginning to see improvements. But can I ask what support or preparatory you did when your children started P1? I mean did you contact the AED way before school start? Did you need to engage a shadow teacher?

my daughter attended Speech therapy, occupational therapy as well as group therapy for social skills as well as for skills ( 8 sessions each) by KKH.
It really helps alot. my views was that, during the group therapy, my daughter has to attend it with a group of other kids, without even seeing them before, and in a new environment, with her being thrown into these situations actually help her in transiting into primary 1.
I always have long chats with her before she started p1 this year about how primary school will be like, Eg the longer hours, the more structured like environment( which i think she actually likes alot), new classmates. I keep reminding her this \" see 1st day of school will be like, remember the day u attended first day of social skills class, all new faces, new teacher ( which is the therapist ..hehe) , new place.. see you can make it through social skills class , primary 1 is easy easy for you..you can make it!\" :boogie:
This is what i keep reminding her before she started primary 1 this year.
I also started writing social stories for her to read about starting primary 1. she loves reading stories then she will start to write her own stories about how she will behave in school, and how school will be like. I try to make it fun for her...luckily school is really fun for her now..she is like always running into school happily whenever i drop her at her school side gate.
I didn't engage shadow teachers, but her class has an assistant teacher to help out as well.
The school allied educator actually took a special effort to ring me up a few weeks before school started to understand more about my daughter's condition. He attended orientation together with her for a while on her first day in the class to make sure she coping ok on the first day. He is like my daughter's good friend in school now.

- PSLE Oral exam,
- Upper primary English Comprehension & Compo ?
- Maths subject ?

For oral, other than lots of practices, we listen to audio books all the time- at home, in car, during long bus trips in Malaysia. I think that's why his reading pace and tone variation are good.

For compo, my son is not very creative; so I bought almost all (I think) the compo books in Popular to expose him to different storylines. Pitfall is he may try unsuccessfully to fit a story to the title and become off-topic. So must stress to him he needs to modify!!! He also memorises lots of useful phrases describing emotions, actions and places.

He is very strong in math.
When he was young, I taught him math the Montessori way; bought the units, tens, hundreds and thousands cubes and I had this book which taught me how to use them. I think that is very useful for understanding modelling, fractions, ratios etc. We did not do xin suan or zu suan.

Hi chibi, good to know your daughter settles well in the school. I can tell her school is also very supportive. Do you still need to send her for therapies now that she seems to be settling down?
My son attends SLT at a private clinic but so far it's only 1-1. There is no chance of group sessions as the therapist needs to coordinate many people's timing. And his previous OT kept postponing the sessions. Now in K2 my son sometimes still has short attention span and will wander off to do his own things. Did your girl have this issue previously and how did you handle?
I'm impressed you are able to write social stories for your girl. It's quite time consuming. I intend to buy those resources and go through with my son. I hope my son will transit as well when he starts P1 next year.
