      With regards to exemption, u can wait until P3/P4. Seems to me that the teacher’s KPI is linked to student’s marks. Especially when u said " the teacher has to explain why the student is scoring low"

          My opinion is to let the kids continue with their MT learning. Learning slowing is a lot better than not learning at all. Just be prepared that they will not scored well in their tests and maybe can consider for MT exemption at P5 or P6 level to avoid letting the score affect their PSLE result. P1 to me is too early…

            The problem nowadays is teachers expect too much and attitude is not there.


            There are of course good teachers and all but it seems that in your case it is the teacher who is being too impatient.

              Thanks for your reply and to supplement, my son was supposed already taught the HYPY in K2 by his private tuition teacher but his result is even worse than those not learned before, according to the school's Chinese teacher.


              Would you mind giving me some pointers to get a recommended center for the assessment, if not a specific one.
              How is your son Chinese result in term 2? His low score could be due to weak in HYPY & no interest in Chinese. My daughter failed all her HYPY spelling, worksheets & tests. Her Chinese teacher even called me to complain. I expected her to fail her Chinese in term 2. However, I received a pleasant surprise when she brought back with her report book before the mid year holidays. She got 60 marks. Although it is much lower than her English & Maths, I am happy that she make it. I think it is her reading aloud, show & tell, help to pull up the overall result & there is less HYPY in term 2. Hope your son did better too.

                Hi Adam,

                Don't panic. HYPY is not everything in Chinese.
                Common symptoms of any dyslexics are low esteem and low confident, so you have have to stay firm and keep cool in front of him. Show him that you are confident to help. Do not scold him if he forget some words which he had just learn, since you know he might be a dyslexic. Keep small progress everyday, and he will appreciate.
