Recently I sent my daughter, who has eczema for many years, to this skin doctor. She gave my daughter to apply steroid cream 2x/ day for 2 weeks And switch to apply to a non steroid based cream for 2x/ a week for another 3 months. Took zrytec for 10 days.

Doctor gave Cetaphil bath & body lotion which can't be found in guardian.
Doctor also said the trick is to try to break the cycle. Hence, it is important to apply all medications even the rashes are clear.
I am trying out this cycle on her. Will see if it will be gone?!

Cetaphil is easily available at the retail pharmacies, how can the doctor tell u it is not available outside? It goes on regular discount as well.

Yes, it is important to break the cycle, but if there is an ongoing infection, which is common in prolonged cases, it will come back again very quickly. I hope that this works for your child, but if it comes back again and is even worse than before, you need to take her to another doctor that will separate out the treatment to address bacterial/fungal infection, while also addressing the itch. And if it still persist, consider underlying allergies.

In our case, we had to remove allergens, and treat the infections. There were areas of the skin that never ever flare up again once the infections were cleared with antibacterial cream and anti fungal wash, which means the earlier doctors were wrong to treat those areas with steroids. There are areas that recur and was only helped by antihistamines, and those areas are linked to allergic eczema with secondary infections. The good news is once the infections were cleared, I could help him get through a reaction with antihistamines instead of him scratching himself raw.

I would say be careful on the steroid creams! They are really strong and can make the skin quite \"raw\" and after the skin heals, may cause the skin to be more tender and thin.

Agree. That's what my doctors always warn us about. Anyway, most if not all are trained to use drugs to treat symptoms and not other forms of method to remove cause of the skin problem or other diseases.

My son has been suffering ezyma for many year. Seen many doctors included KK, Pte skin doctors and even Chinese doctors .


I realised that all can’t help much. I personally feel that we need to observe the roots of the allegy. eg. whether is Food or environment. This need a bit of time and patience to recall back the cause of it when it flared up.

My son went for skin pricked test and found that his cause is due to enviroment, hence it is easier for me to track. I observed that each time he wanted to sleep he feel itchy. When we are at a dusty place, he started to feel uncomfortable. From here, I know the cause, I started to buy a Good vacuum cleaner which can suck out the bed dustmite. Sun the mAttress regularly. try my best to keep house clean. we also remind him not to lie down or sit down on the floor in the public place. I requested the teacher not to let him sit on the floor in class. Lucky the teacher is kind enough to make special arrangement for him. His ezyma Is control for 2 years liao .

I feel the best cure is to find the cause of the ezyma than wasting lots of money doing or buying all the unnecessary thing. If u all want may also can go through Polyclinic to go KK for allergy test. it may not be 100% accurate but it do help to narrow down the cause of the ezyma and observe from there. After that do all the prevention for it to flare up. This is just my own personal opinion and observant from my own son.

I have eczema and when it flares up, it is coupled with urticaria (hives). My eczema is not localised but all over the body, very similar to chicken pox.


My dermatologist prescribed steriod cream and Aqueous moisturiser ($3/tube 100ml) but only works if it's a mild eczema. They don't seem to help if there is a flare-up.

My gf introduced me to Physiogel AI cream. It is effective but very expensive @ $37 for a 50ml tube. My son has eczema on his hands and feet too and I'm also using the AI cream on him.

Does anyone here has a good recommendation of moisturising cream that works for eczema but doesn't cost a bomb?

Eczema is a very common skin problem in many people, young and old. Most of us suffer from this skin condition to varying degrees. For me and my DD1, we will get some form of eczema from time to time especially when the weather is hot.

However, my MIL has a fantastic remedy to cure eczema. It is actually a herb coming from a plant she grows in her garden! I don't know the botanical name of the plant but it has saved many many many people from their agonies and sufferings over eczema.

My mil first came to know about the full benefits of this plant when she was watering the plant (which grows to the height of a man) in her garden and a taxi driver happened to pass by. He told my mil that the plant is a herb that cures skin diseases and is very previous cuz it is hardly found in Singapore. That set my mil thinking as her 3 year old granddaughter had been battling against chronic eczema since birth and all western medicine from skin specialists/KK hospitals and TCM remedies and acupuncture did not help at all.
