Help! I got hfmd myself from my sister’s kid…now at home, parents helping to look after my kids but the pain is really bad! This is my fifth day and pain is not abating but getting worse…any suggestion as to what I can do…have seen doctor twice…I have been putting ice cubes on my ulcers to help take pain away but it is still there…
Really feel for all those who have had this before! -
Dear parents,
Would like to ask if any of you had encounter recurring HFMD? 1st was mild and lasted about a week or so, then like 3 to 4 days later it came the serious 1 with ulcers all over the mouth, red spot appearing in both hands and feet and lasted about 2 weeks or so, then like few days later see a no. of ulcers appearing again in the mouth and some red dots in the mouth too. Thanks if anyone can share some information on this. -

Hi Mommies,
I just want to enquire. During an outbreak of HFMD, what's the responsibilities of the school? Are they suppose to inform parents or paste a notice that there was such a case in advance? I am kind of pissed of right now.
There was a suspected case of HFMD in my 20m daughter's CC on the 29th of April 2013 and on that day itself, she came home with an open blister on her upper thigh. Hubs and me didn't think much of it cos we all know she has itchy hands, might have been a mosquito bite and she scratched it. (We didn't know there was a suspected HFMD case in school till this morning when i saw the notice on the front door of the school)
On the 6th of May 2013, my daughter woke up, called me (yes, she called my mobile using my mom's mobile) and started crying. I panicked, and used my office phone to call home and my mom found her hiding in our room. My mom said she pointed to a red spot on the back of her hand and kept crying. My Mom brought her to the doctor's but was not diagnose with HFMD, cos it was just 1 spot. As she had on-going flu, the doctor gave her an MC which my Mom brought to the CC to hand over to the principal.
There was no notice of an outbreak at all.
On the 7th of May 2013, my mom spotted a few small red spots randomly on her arms and legs, she brought her to the doctors again, but he didn't suspect anything, cos it was random spots. But he noted there was 2 ulcers in her throat. And also the doctor asked us if her CC had any outbreak of HFMD, my mom said no. (Cos we weren't informed at all!)
That night i went home, my girl was fine and playing with me. But later on around 8+, I noted that the spots has spread and there was 1 spot on the sole of her left foot but many at her private part area and butt hole. That morning when the doctor and my mom checked, there was nothing at all. And when I was playing with my girl earlier and there was nothing on her hands too, but now there was this awful blister on her little finger. We sent her to KKH and the doctor confirmed it was HFMD.
On the 8th of May, i called the school to inform them that my daughter had HFMD, they asked me to bring the KKH letter to them as they need to escalate the matter to their management. There was still no notice on their door. I spoke with the teacher awhile and I EVEN told her, most probably she didn't get it from school. Might have got it from a playground somewhere. I was feeling quite embarrassed as HFMD to me was like a hygiene issue and we as parents might have overlooked on the hygiene factor. But the teacher was more embarrassed than I was. Of cos i didn't suspect anything since there was no notice.
On the 13th of May (yesterday) My mom brought my daughter to get clearance to return to Child Care. She brought the letter to the principal and still there was no notice at all.
Today, when i brought my girl to Child Care, There it was! The notice of outbreak was there! On the front door!
As stated on the notice, suspected case of HFMD 29th April. Confirmed case 29th April! Child returned to school on the 7th!
I feel that the school had been very irresponsible by not informing us parents that there was such an outbreak. Aren't the school suppose to inform us? It really looks like the school teachers do not communicate with each other at all too.
Sorry for the long post. I need to let the steam out

I guess it depends on the SOP of the centre with regards to HFMD. Some centres do not inform parents unless they have 2 or more cases. Some will inform only the parents of that class for initial cases and monitor to contain the spread. To understand how your child’s centre manage HFMD cases and possible outbreak, do talk to them.

In the morning when I brought my girl back to the Child Care.
As stated on the notice. It stated 1 child only.
And plus, it's not like they have separate classrooms or different classes.
They are all in one big area with a separate music room only.
They just like have shelves to segregate the areas and these shelves is not those big ones. They are just like 1/3 height for them to put the child's bags. -

Well talk to the supervisor or principal to understand how they handle cases of HFMD and communication to parents. If there are areas where you are concerned about, raise it to them.Funz:

I am just saying that different centres adopt different ways of handling cases. There are many different types of childcare settings as well so their SOP will take into consideration all these.
