2012 P1 Registration Exercise for 2013 In-Take

Kelsy:
Why don't you join the alumni? You are still in time to join to qualify for P2A1. P2A1 is Almost guaranteed. This year P2A1 30 applicants, P2A2 as of now is 70.weyw:

Which phase are you registering at?
i will be applying in 2014... under phase 2A2 for RSS... so crossing my fingers and toes that ballot at phase 2A2 will not happen when time to come.... as recently alot of private condos are built around the sch....
:yikes:
You also need to take into consideration that RSS may cut intake to go in line with MOE's direction to go single session in 2016.
If you are really keen to join the alumni, pm me, I'll give you the contact.
Hi Kelsy,
i have pm u on the contact. :thankyou:
-
tankee:
Agree. As it is, the schools are reducing intake to gear up for single session....
I wouldn't bank on this.phtthp:
don't think MOE allow that.
if it ever happen, MOE will intervene & do something to this unique situation. I believer MOE also closely monitoring situation now, since they just implement policy.
i feel that the school should try to open up another class. -
SAHM_TAN:
I also find this yr very unique indeed. Past yrs hype was usually at P2B, most discussions happened AFTER P2A2. Isn't our birthrate going downhill??
I looked at the moe website for the vacancies left for rgps and there are still 89. It looks like a comfortable figure to me and you are at 2A2.angie69:
Hi,
I have registered my daughter into Pei Chun Public and I am staying at Toa Payoh. I am an old gal of RGPS and can register her into RGPS under Phase 2A(2).
Can anyone advise if I stand a chance in RGPS? I am in a dilemma as I need to withdraw from Pei Chun in rorder to register for RGPS.
I don't understand why this year I feel from this thread that P2A2 is so tense. This level of tension is usually at P2B.
If you are apprehensive, can call the school in the afternoon to chk the figure mid-way registration for today. -
Belinng:
I think if its just exceed by 1, they will go without balloting.
Sharing my experience here. Last year when I registered my dd I persuaded the sch to take in just one more student, the sch rejected strongly saying that all registration have to go to MOE and MOE does not allow such thing to happen cos all classes are capped at 30. Even it is just out by one, they will still have to go for ballot and whoever being balloted out will have to register in another sch. This is a cruel reality.
Hmm.. My understadning is that we go by distance. If a;; 121 kids for that 119 places are n teh same distance category and also all are SC, then even if exceed by 1 application, all must ballot. Anyone else have a different understanding, please help enlighten.lilfeets:
The school of my choice has 119 vacancies for 2(A)2, I called today and 60 have registered. I have this feeling it will go to ballot. If that happens I will withdraw since I live more than 10 km from the school. Can anyone advise if this is a good idea? I understand that if lets say 120 or 121 kids apply for 119 places, management may take in all to save on balloting procedure ... can anybody confirm?
Thanks much -
They have to go for ballot even if exceed by one. If not, how about those exceed by two? Three? Where will be the cap? Those who have to ballot when exceed by five or ten may cry foul and question the data updated on the moe website cos why canβt school absorb extra one student per class? Etc.

I am puzzled as well.... I tot 2006 birth rate was not that high!

-
I am still watching this P1 registration closely despite I am not registering this year. I had my fair share of stress and heartache last year. My dh told me last night that I am wasting too much time on this P1 registration when it is none of my concerns...LOL.
I do not think the birth rate has decreased as I remember that I was just qualified for the baby bonus when I gave birth to my ds2 in 2005. With the introduction of baby bonus, the birth rate went up a little before coming down again. Went to search for birth rates and found this link:
http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/singapore-birth-rate-vs-available-primary-one-places
Instead, birth rate in 2006 is higher than that of 2005.
I must say it is more competitive this year. A number of schools are having less than 20 vacancies for phases 2b and 2c now. It won't be long for us to see balloting at phase 2a2. -
phtthp:
refer past 2011 PSLE average / mean score:-
Please do not just look at top score. While SCGS has not produced a top scorer above 275 in recent years (her top scorers were still above 270) heralng:

Go for RV as it is nearer and you have higher chance because base on current seats bal at scgs, those > 2km may have risk to get rejected. Personally I think most people choose SCGS or ACS mainly due to prestige and affiliation. Schools that produce top PSLE scores in Singapore are mainly from NYPS, RGPS and most SAP neighborhood schools. Eg. If u go read the notice board at TLL(the learning lab) you cannot find SCGS members in the top psle scorer list.
RV is better than ST Margaret in terms of academic performance so you can consider that as last option.
results in terms of average T score and % of quality passes have been very good and were way better than many neighbourhood SAP schools. For example, SCGS's average T-score of 230+ vs a very popular school at jurong west (the one that produced top scorer) average T-score of 210+.
SCGS mean of 233.35 & % Quality passes beat Rulang & River Valley. The academic results showed that SCGS is stronger than these 2 schools.
let's compare by subject, detailed breakdown (refer % Quality passes):-
English: SCGS (91.2 %) vs Rulang (64.2 %)
Chinese: SCGS (89.3 %) vs Rulang (89.8 %)
Science: SCGS (82 %) vs Rulang (64.5 %)
Maths: SCGS (68.6 %) vs Rulang (61.6 %)

River Valley (page 3):-

SCGS beat River Valley flat, in all 4 subjects.
let's compare by subject, detailed breakdown (% Quality passes):-
English: SCGS (91.2 %) vs RV (56.2 %): by a huge difference
Chinese: SCGS (89.3 %) vs RV (81.4 %)
Science: SCGS (82 %) vs RV (52.1 %): also huge difference
Maths: SCGS (68.6 %) vs RV (56.8 %): quite huge difference

St Margaret need to improve academically, especially on her Maths.
Thanks all for your comments and analysis!!! Feeling the stress now as the registration numbers todate are much higher than past few years.... -
Many parents woke up one morning and realised that they are actually an old boy or old girl of some schools. :heresmyfish:

My 2nd one is in P2 but I am looking at vacancies available out of curiousity. Thought Phase 2A2 is still safe :scratchhead: and the stress comes in at 2B/C.
