Hi Parents, a few more hours to make your final decision.

Its going to be a long day for some, also please spare a thought for the school staff. If you are a last minute applicant and your action has resulted in a particular group being eliminated with the imminent cut off time. The school will remember you.

If we have successfully registered in Phase 2B via PV and would like to withdraw now to try Phase 2C of a more popular school, is it still possible?

Yes it is possible and you need to do it early because 2C registration ends tomorrow. Maybe you can do everyone a deed by letting us know which school you are withdrawing from? Maybe someone is looking to park their kid there as well.

      Oh My Gosh:
      snaw:

Just wondering if anyone can help clarify a question I have:

I'm PR (Sorry), have applied for a school for my daughter where we're over 2KM but in the past there were always places at phase 2c, however this year it's looking very likely it will go to ballot and I'm now thinking I'd like to withdraw my app and try another local school we also like, is it possible before registration has closed or do we have to wait till 2CS now?

      Thanks.

P1 registration is like placing bets on the casino tables. As long as the dealer had not pressed the 'final' bell (i.e. 1 August 4:30pm for Phase 2C registration), all gamblers (parents) can still change their bets (i.e. another school) on the table. After the final bell is pressed, no change is entertained. Some gamblers win (either direct entry or through balloting) and some gamblers lose. Gamblers whom win can leave the game or take another bet (this happens to few parents whom gave up their Phase 1 or Phase 2A seats and register at later phases e.g. Phase 2B/2C. Gamblers whom lose went on to place another bets (e.g. Phase 2C supplement). Just to lighten the moods a bit with this example but I feel the tense feelings at P1 registration can indeed beat that at casino tables.

I like your analogy :heresmyfish: but on the gaming table, money lost now can be won back later. A place in a school lost is a good few years.

I just registered my son to Nan Chiau this morning, only 80plus applicants but now it's 161 even Anchorgreen left 18 vacancies. My back up school also like hot cakes. I should have stick to AG , anyway can I withdraw and reapply AG ? lolz

      Of course you may.

Everyone stands an equal chance in the same category (SC / <1km). So even if applicants swell to 250 by end of day 3, you still have a genuine chance. Hang in there!

Thanks for your advice. Seem like should go for Poi Ching and forget about St Hilda. 😞

I stay two blocks away from St Hilda and I have registered my kid in my wife's old school instead. I don't like to gamble with my kid's future.

My point is, P1 registration is only the beginning. Be it school A or school B, if you are going to subject your kids to tonnes of tuition and enrichment classes, why clamour so much hope on the choice of school when it is only going to be six years of residency?

anyone registering your kids to SHPS (St. Hilda Pr. School) in phase 2C? I am living < 1KM... how high is my chance? based on passed yr, look difficult...

and anyone try to check the vacancy available at the end of each registration date? asking info like how many SC < 1km.. etc...
Based on past balloting in 2C, This is one of the hardest lucky draw. The odds is 3 children vying for every 1 seat, if you still want to try, good luck but have a solid back up plan. Just stating the facts 🆒

Is it those failed to get in at phase 2B will automatically register for phase 2C?

No. One has to register again for the new phase.

Hi, my elder daughter is in a primary school. I wld like to try for my younger one (SC) in another reputed school within 1km. Due to SC priorities, knowing the low chances, many PRs may flood 2nd tier schools in 2C phase, in this case my elder daughter's. If we are unable to get any seat in 2C in our school of preference and all seats in my elder daughter's school is already taken in 2C, do the schools allow siblings to join in 2C supp. Are there any seats reserved for siblings to join in 2C supplementary?.

Thanks for your help in advance.
No reservation of seats for anyone. There won't be 2CS once seats are fully taken.

TRUE. If MOE really wants to put into practice what it preaches, then the whole registration phases should be tweaked to read (roughly) as such...

Nice hypothesis, I will also create my assumptions based on your recommendation.
      1) Popular schools in high density estates (massive concentration of HDB, condos will be 100% filled by 2A2.
      2) School bus operators will be protesting in front of MOE and demand for a revamp of this policy.
      3) Property prices around popular schools will be driven up further in a desperate bid for parents to secure a place.
      4) Alumni association / religious / clan membership will take a big hit. School funding will also be hit, doubts begin to surface if the schools are able to maintain or even upgrade the current facilities. No PVs? While some schools have no lack of parents dying to serve as PVs, other schools see this as a healthy relationship in getting parents involve in community activities. PVs also serve as feeder to PSG, which is an important component of the school's programme.
      5) \"Lesser known\" schools will benefit from this policy as the take up rate will significantly improved. With majority of kids coming from the local neighbourhood, assimilation into the school culture richer / synergy better. Support for the school teams during zonal competitions will be partisan!
      6) Actually, priority by distance fuels elitism. Just like in property, we will start labelling schools by district 9 / 10 / 11.

My conclusion, current system is not perfect, needs improvements, yes, and yet many considerations too.
