My DS is with NCC and they are frequently required to skip lessons to attend activities outside school. He is required to attend a camp forge at NCC HQ from 8am till 5pm this Friday, effectively missing out all lessons. Does the school keep tabs or limit the number of hours/ times a student can skip lessons for CCA activities? I’m very concerned as CCA shouldn’t take priority over school work.

What do other parents feel, and what do u suggest I do?

My DS is struggling with Maths and Science in Y2. The pace in RV seems to be too fast for her. For Maths, she’s generally unable to complete the test within the allocated time. Any recommendations? Y2 parents, how are your kids doing?

Hi Tango696, this Friday school is rndung at 11am due to AYLC event. Can it be this reason, thats why the NCC choose this day for the full day camp?

Hi MXYMum, I would suggest she arrange consultation time with the teachers after school which most of the teachers are very willing and helpful to teach extra or clarify his doubts.

                Tango696,

Welcome to the reality of IP schools...
All students in this IP scheme are supposed to handle both academic and CCA well...

Like a saying....they expect the students not only can SWIM but MUST ALSO FLY.....:scared:

Which means must be able to do more than the average students...

And within RV there are many China Students, who are extremely smart.... :skeptical:

Don't worry , your child should be able to cope....

By Year 5 the students are allowed to switch to a not so active CCA....

This is the life of IP students......

                  MXYMum,

I understand that RV teachers will conduct after school classes for students who are unable to cope with their studies....

But with this extra classes still cannot catch up....better seek for external help
                  before is too late....

IP school teach subjects different from the normal secondary schools...

If I am not wrong if a student GPA falls below 3.2 , they are made to repeat ....

Note: I am not working for tuition centre... I just KPO.... 🆒

It's GPA 2.2 or 2.0, not 3.2 lah. Otherwise, there will be many repeats every year. :scared:

[/quote]Hi! GPA requirement for promotion to Y2, Y3 and Y4 is 2.0 for Y1, Y2 and Y3 students respectively. For Y4 to Y5, requirement is 2.5, but 3.2 is required for reading 4 H2 at JC years.

Apart from GPA, 4 other criteria include minimum B4 in HCL, minimum B4 in EL, minimum \"Very Good\" for LCD Grade and minimum Bronze award for NAPFA Test under the r-CCAC. The last criterion applies for all years except Y1.

As for recommendations to parents who are concerned about their child's performance in Math, the advice will be to get your child to do timed practice frequently. Also, try to stop using correction fluid/tape even during normal schoolwork (just cancel the mistakes, it will reduce time taken for making corrections) so that it becomes a habit not to use it in tests and examinations. FYI, usage of correction fluid/tape in tests results in penalty of a few marks in the paper, which is not worth it.

For Science, read up the guidebooks bought to revise the concepts. Clarify any doubts when necessary.
