TOP choice for my children's Sec Sch

mummy so kiasu:
Can you separate RI & RGS. Pls include some other popular IP schools such as like Victoria, Cedar, Catholic High, Duman High, River Valley High & NJC to your list to improve the accuracy of the poll?BeContented:
Actually HCI should be together with NYGH, like \"HCI/NYGH\", since RI/RGS?
good idea....but then ACS(I) become single.....
If I break up RI/RGS.....then the data gone.....grrhh.
:imcool:
Errrrr.....added and earlier poll disappeared. So will not change anymore after this round.

i got top choice school, but i stay too far from it, so is it still consider top choice, or should i select one that i consider top based on proximity? and is it top choice based on mummy wish or kids' ability?

I’m Sec 3, from Maris Stella High. The transition period from Pri Sch to Sec School is definitely not easy, and normally I get dismissed from school at around 4pm. Still got homework, studying to do. Not forgetting CCAs. So distance would really be an important factor in the selection of Secondary Schools.

Hi there,
do u think 50min to 1hour travelling is reasonable? -

Can I share my view on this?SunBrazen:

I personally think an hr on traveling is ok, IF it covers both ways - to and from school. If one trip is an hour, I think precious time is wasted on commuting.
My brother used to spend 3 hrs on commuting each day to and from his school. I seriously think it's a waste of time. -
Imami:
My choice would be RI or catholic high. They are the nearest branded sec sch to home.
Good choice, Imami... :hi5:
Both are good (boys) schools, in their own ways..
I prefer boys' schools for my boys, coz dont want them to be involved in BGR at so young a age..

Don't say ''end up in'' leh..Imami:

We are considering RI or Catholic High too. Chance of going to RI might not be high, most probably end up in Catholic High. Not staying near the schools, but with MRT, traveling time is less than an hour.
Both are very good (boys) schools, in their own ways...

I hv not considered that far yet…though my eldest will be due for PSLE in 2 years’ time. Currently, I am using the elimination method…after observing the teens’ behavior in public near my neighbourhood, I know which sch to avoid liao…

Oh dear, someone told me that Sec 1 is less stressful than P6. No more PSLE & school bag also get lighter too. Do homework till 12am? No joke, not much different from P6 school life. Singapore education is indeed very stressful. :nailbite:Lynn2010:
Yes yes.... parents, please consider distance. In secondary, kids dismissed later than pri sch, more subjects, more hmwk, need more time for revision for CT & exam. In addition, school activities, CIP, etc.
My dds in secondary sch, dismiss 2 pm (2 days) and 2.40pm (3 days), by the time they board a bus, reach home around 3pm/3.30pm (we live 10 min drive from sch). By the time they eat, shower, rest for while etc it is already 4pm/4.30pm. Then they start homework. They may have to stay back up to 5pm/5.30pm, as there are other activities in school. Some time, dd has to stay up to almost 12am to complete homework. On good days, they complete homework and go to bed by 11pm.
Weekends are the only 2 days they can catch up with some extra sleep hours.
Please... Now in Sec 1, my bag is so heavy I reach home panting like a mad dog and sweating like a pig after 1.5 hours of travelling by walking, taking the MRT, walking again, taking a bus and walking again.
Moreover I get backaches. Never has this happened in Primary School.
P6 is definitely less stressful than Sec 1. -
LOL This polling is very flat. It’s SUPER obvious the ones winning are the ones branded with the word "Raffles", "Hwa Chong" or "Nanyang".
These 3 are the schools with the highest COPs in Singapore. No wonder they are leading…
