TOP choice for my children's Sec Sch

My choice would be RI or catholic high. They are the nearest branded sec sch to home.
We are considering RI or Catholic High too. Chance of going to RI might not be high, most probably end up in Catholic High. Not staying near the schools, but with MRT, traveling time is less than an hour.
Both are very good (boys) schools, in their own ways...

I hv not considered that far yet…though my eldest will be due for PSLE in 2 years’ time. Currently, I am using the elimination method…after observing the teens’ behavior in public near my neighbourhood, I know which sch to avoid liao…

Oh dear, someone told me that Sec 1 is less stressful than P6. No more PSLE & school bag also get lighter too. Do homework till 12am? No joke, not much different from P6 school life. Singapore education is indeed very stressful. :nailbite:Lynn2010:
Yes yes.... parents, please consider distance. In secondary, kids dismissed later than pri sch, more subjects, more hmwk, need more time for revision for CT & exam. In addition, school activities, CIP, etc.
My dds in secondary sch, dismiss 2 pm (2 days) and 2.40pm (3 days), by the time they board a bus, reach home around 3pm/3.30pm (we live 10 min drive from sch). By the time they eat, shower, rest for while etc it is already 4pm/4.30pm. Then they start homework. They may have to stay back up to 5pm/5.30pm, as there are other activities in school. Some time, dd has to stay up to almost 12am to complete homework. On good days, they complete homework and go to bed by 11pm.
Weekends are the only 2 days they can catch up with some extra sleep hours.
Please... Now in Sec 1, my bag is so heavy I reach home panting like a mad dog and sweating like a pig after 1.5 hours of travelling by walking, taking the MRT, walking again, taking a bus and walking again.
Moreover I get backaches. Never has this happened in Primary School.
P6 is definitely less stressful than Sec 1. -

These 3 are the schools with the highest COPs in Singapore. No wonder they are leading… -

So you spent 1.5 hour one way? Would you have chosen a nearer school or you think your school is totally worth it? We are looking at 15min walk plus 35min mrt plus 10 min walk to temporary premises. Permanent premise is 5min walk plus total 30min bus ride on 2 different bus plus another 5min walk to school. Total 40min. I prefer mrt which is more reliable than bus but to transfer to circle line will need another short walk although I think will be faster. -

That 's what i used to tell other parents too....P6 is definitely less stressful than Sec 1.
After my gal goes to sec sch, she says that P6 life is much much better as compared to current hecticness and stress...... -

I'm Sec 3, from Maris Stella High. The transition period from Pri Sch to Sec School is definitely not easy, and normally I get dismissed from school at around 4pm. Still got homework, studying to do. Not forgetting CCAs. So distance would really be an important factor in the selection of Secondary Schools.

Yes, I agree that distance is an important factor......that is why I would not consider one particular school
In your view, what would be acceptable? 1 hour? Would mode of transport matter? eg. Bus / MRT / Walk -

Anyway, it was a pure simple poll to see what are other parents thinking. Also, perhaps may get some parents to start considering about the distance of the chosen school. I'm glad some kids have shared their view. Personally, I will not consider schools that are too far.
