River Valley High School [*IP]
-
Ex-RVHS student myself and just chanced upon this thread
Here's my take on why there are more girls than boys - 'cos RVHS boys have to continue to wear shorts still in Sec 3 & 4
& I chose RV over NYGH then 'cos I prefer RV school uniforms. Hahahaha ...
Honestly, after that, I did regret a little 'cos the uniform material was thick then and require frequent ironing (by myself). However, I had noticed that they had change to a much thinner & cooler now - so all's good.
My strong Chinese foundation and interest was from RVHS ! -

But now the situation has changed since they are IP. Year 1 to 3, boys wear shorts, girls wear that \"st john's\" uniform. Year 4 to 6, boys wear long pants with plain white shirt, girls wear blue skirt with plain white shirt. Here's my take on why there are more girls than boys - 'cos RVHS boys have to continue to wear shorts still in Sec 3 & 4

Really?! Times has changed indeed
& haha on \"st john's\" uniform - can certainly associate with that! Wonder why I fell in love with that uniform in the first place when I was primary 6  -

Ya, my dd was very angry when she went back to primary school to visit teacher, the friends commented \"hey, nice nurse uniform !\".

Hi Daisyt,
Would u recommend RV for my ds who did not take HMT for PSLE? And also he got an A for MT though the rest are A*.
In fact , MT is his weakest , which is why iβm worried if he will suffer in RV. If iβm not wrong , canβt drop HMT for MT in RV if he canβt cope with HMT, right?
Your precious and frank opinion is appreciated. -

I got 266 (+2 for HCL) but i still am having a hard time trying to choose between Nanyang Girls' High or River Valley. I hope that seeing the campus in person would help me very much in deciding so does anyone know if they allow visitors?
Please tell if do know!! Thanks in advance :celebrate: -

Hi, in RV, Math is consider two subjects when come to year 3 (A and E Math) and not allowed to drop. For Chinese, yes, like what you have mentioned. They have to take O level chinese and as long as get a C6 (pass), then its not necessary to take A level Chinese. To get promoted to next year, English and Chinese must score min C6 (pass). So long, you don't mind him just pass for Chinese and think he can, its should not be a problem. RV has a very Chinese oriented environment.Hi Daisyt,

I am not sure if RV accept visitors to the new campus once they move in. Actually they are now in the process of shifting. You can try calling the school to ask. But during this time, the campus is just a building, only some students would go back for CCA, so there is nothing much to see lor. Campus itself, of course its very nice because its new and big.//Moderator's note: Topics merged.

If i m correct, RVH COP is higher than ACS I... i think only those who can manage higher Chinese or those who values it will go RVH... have 2 neighbours' kids one went for RVH cos of higher Chinese and the other went for ACS i because in his own words ' cant stand Chinese..don't want to force myself to suffer again.\"
So yes...for those who cant make it to HCI will choose RVH 2nd best but the story is different for ACS IMdmKS:
Wonder whether the talk will be in the new campus? I know the school also go round to give talk to some popular primary schools last year. Popular for those stay in the west, especially those did not make it to NYGH, HCI, NUSH or ACSI.wiimum:
It is an SAP IP school. There are generally more girls than boys in this school. New campus should be ready by this year or next year in Jurong.
DSA into the school is quite tough, have to go through many rounds of tests, interviews etc. -
I would like to know more about the ip programme. My daughter scored 260 (inclusive of HMT) and put RVHS as her first choice. What if she screwed up her A levels and fails to get into university? Would she be able to retake her A levels? Is it stressful in the IP? Is a laptop compulsory in RVHS?
