      Hi Daisyt,

Would u recommend RV for my ds who did not take HMT for PSLE? And also he got an A for MT though the rest are A*.

In fact , MT is his weakest , which is why i’m worried if he will suffer in RV. If i’m not wrong , can’t drop HMT for MT in RV if he can’t cope with HMT, right?

Your precious and frank opinion is appreciated.

I got 266 (+2 for HCL) but i still am having a hard time trying to choose between Nanyang Girls' High or River Valley. I hope that seeing the campus in person would help me very much in deciding so does anyone know if they allow visitors?

Please tell if do know!! Thanks in advance :celebrate:

Hi, in RV, Math is consider two subjects when come to year 3 (A and E Math) and not allowed to drop. For Chinese, yes, like what you have mentioned. They have to take O level chinese and as long as get a C6 (pass), then its not necessary to take A level Chinese. To get promoted to next year, English and Chinese must score min C6 (pass). So long, you don't mind him just pass for Chinese and think he can, its should not be a problem. RV has a very Chinese oriented environment. 😄

I am not sure if RV accept visitors to the new campus once they move in. Actually they are now in the process of shifting. You can try calling the school to ask. But during this time, the campus is just a building, only some students would go back for CCA, so there is nothing much to see lor. Campus itself, of course its very nice because its new and big. 😄

If i m correct, RVH COP is higher than ACS I... i think only those who can manage higher Chinese or those who values it will go RVH... have 2 neighbours' kids one went for RVH cos of higher Chinese and the other went for ACS i because in his own words ' cant stand Chinese..don't want to force myself to suffer again.\"

So yes...for those who cant make it to HCI will choose RVH 2nd best but the story is different for ACS I

It is an SAP IP school. There are generally more girls than boys in this school. New campus should be ready by this year or next year in Jurong.
DSA into the school is quite tough, have to go through many rounds of tests, interviews etc.

Wonder whether the talk will be in the new campus? I know the school also go round to give talk to some popular primary schools last year. Popular for those stay in the west, especially those did not make it to NYGH, HCI, NUSH or ACSI.

I would like to know more about the ip programme. My daughter scored 260 (inclusive of HMT) and put RVHS as her first choice. What if she screwed up her A levels and fails to get into university? Would she be able to retake her A levels? Is it stressful in the IP? Is a laptop compulsory in RVHS?

                  mod, please merge. Thanks

hi linda, I have replied you in a previous thread. For 260, most probably would be posted to top 3 class in year 1. IP is not stressful, the stressful part is a sudden increase of subjects. It is important for the child to be open when in IP programes because there are many research, projects (team and individual), presentations. Usually there is a transition period, about 3 months. Once the students get use to it, life in IP is fun and interesting. I can say, tiring more than stressful because of long hours, esp Tues and Fri (up to 6pm due to CCAs). Wed must stay back for peer support bonding (for 6 months) till about 3+ or 4pm.

The school monitor the students progress very closely. Once they see the students are weak in certain subjects, they would be called to attend remedial lessons in school (as early as after 1st semester). There is one O level class in RV for students who cannot progress along the IP programes. By year 3 (I think), they would transfer you to O level class if you cannot meet the min GPA. For every year, if the student is unable to meet the min GPA, they would be either retained or promote with conditions.

Anyone can screw up during the A level, regardless if IP or not (I got enlightened by one of the parent here 😄 ). I am not sure nowadays, if can retake A levels and combine cert. To retake all A level subjects, as a private candidate, its possible.

Computer is required because they need to do a lot of work involve research. Printing of worksheets, notes, slides also quite intensive. They do not need to bring laptop to school, unless for certain CCA, eg. infocomm.

Schools like RV have more girls than boys isn’t because of the shorts that boys have to wear. The ratio is 2:1. Dunman high has the same ratio too. Look at the top scores for psle, girls to boys ratio 2:1. Look at the cutoff points, RGS>RI, Nanyang>HCI, CHIJ Saint Nick>Cat high, Cedar Girls>Victoria…You look at the secondary schools with highest COP-more girls schools than boys schools.

Conclusion: Girls did better than boys in psle.

Naturally, there will be more girls than boys in a good mix school. Interestingly, the ratio is 2:1. Probably the ratio of girls to boys in the psle range above aggregate 250 is 2:1.
