Ah...so there are indeed enough schools, i.e. those who fail the balloting can all fit into Pioneer Primary School. Now people are fighting for new facilities in the new schools. Gosh...the govt really did their sums to the dot.....I calculated those who would not get a seat in the new schools will come up to 71 kids and Pioneer have exactly 71 seats left......so uncannily accurate!! :yikes:

      :gloomy: 😢
So that was the LAST school that people of that neighborhood wants to go to........

      Mummy BeContented :hugs: :snuggles:
It doesn't matter whether this is the FIRST or LAST school that people in this neighborhood wants to go to 😄 It matters more whether our kid(s) can learn and excel by themselves in whichever school they are studying in.

Frankly speaking, I am never mindful whenever people ask,\" your girls in which school? Oh Corporation Primary at Jurong West! Why you never think of transfer them out? That school is one of the UNDER RADAR in that neighbourhood!\" :lightrod: :faint:

My DD1 in P4, Dd2 in P1 and they are both loving school and learning well. I am proud to say that both are adapting well in school and enjoying everyday 🕺 (minus the tons of homework for P4 DD1 😉 ).

SO, whether they are in the \"top, popular\" school or \"under radar\" one as commented by many - their Happiness is my greatest achievement & contentment as a mummy 😄

Tweaking the P1 Registration Phase - My thougths; up to you to debate and "move heaven and earth" to fight for change.

        Phase 1
For a Singaporean child who has a sibling studying in the primary school of choice living within 3km from the school. For PR child who has a sibling studying in the primary school of choice living within 2km from the school. For children with existing sibling that fail the distance criteria, MOE will assist the older sibling to transfer to the same school of the younger sibling nearer to their home upon request from the parent.

        Phase 2

Phase 2A cap maximum 50% of total available vacancy less Phase 1 intake. If the number of vacancies is less than 25% of total vacancy, then the formula Total vacancies after Phase 1 divide by 3 would be adopted} Priority in admission group 1 followed by group 2 and lastly group 3
        1) (a) For a Singaporean child whose parent is a former student of the primary school and who has joined the alumni association as a member not later than 30 June of the preceeding year living within 3km from the school.
        (b) For a Singaporean child whose parent is a member of the School Advisory / Management Committee living within 3km from the school
        2) © For a Singaporean child whose parent is a staff member of the primary school of choice living within 3km from the school
        (d) For a Singaporean child whose parent or sibling has studied in the primary school of choice living within 3km from the school
        3) For a PR child whose parent is an alumni of the school, a member of the School Advisory/ Management Committee, staff member of the primary school or whose parent or sibling has studied in the primary school of choice living within 2km from the school.

Phase 2B (Total vacancy after phase 2A divide by 2) Priority in admission – group 1 followed by group 2
1)\t(a) For a Singaporean child whose parent has joined the primary school as a parent volunteer not later than 1 Jul 2011 and has given at least 40 hours of voluntary service to the school by 30 Jun 2012
        (b) For a Singaporean child whose parent is a member endorsed by the church/clan directly connected with the primary school
© For a Singaporean child whose parent is endorsed as an active community leader
2)\t(a) For a PR child whose parent has joined the primary school as a parent volunteer not later than 1 Jul 2011 and has given at least 40 hours of voluntary service to the school by 30 Jun 2012
        (b) For a PR child whose parent is a member endorsed by the church/clan directly connected with the primary school
© For a PR child whose parent is endorsed as an active community leader

Phase 2C (Total vacancy after phase 2B)
        Phase 2C(1)
For all Singaporean children who are eligible for Primary One in the following year and are not yet registered in a primary school
        Phase 2C(2)
For all Singaporean children who are eligible for Primary One in the following year and are not yet registered by P2C(1)

Phase 2D (Total vacancy after Phase 2C)
        Phase 2D(1)
For all PR children who are eligible for Primary One in the following year and are not yet registered in a primary school
        Phase 2D(2)
For all PR children who are eligible for Primary One in the following year and are not yet registered by P2D(1)

Phase 3 (Total vacancy after phase 2D)
For a child who is neither a Singapore Citizen nor a Singapore Permanent Resident
For any phase, balloting kicks in with distance priority within 1km, 1-2km and 2km and beyond when applicants exceed the number of vancancies.

:goodpost: great idea for phase 2C and additional phase 2D.
However, I don't agree with you for phase 1. Can you imagine parents with many children having to attend different sets of sports day, school carnival, PTAs. Just remembering the dates is a big headache. Don't forget the tests/exam schedules too....

Those with many children not likely to be attending school far away from home. They are given an extra 1km.....

              How about

              Phase 1
For a Singaporean child who has a sibling studying in the primary school of choice living within 3km from the school. For a Singaporean or PR child who has 2 or more siblings studying in the primary school of choice, the distance criteria will be set aside. 😉

There’s more kids born in 2007… Really hoping that schools will increase intake by 1 class for next year intake, if not, the balloting situation might be worse than this year.

Seeing the balloting situation this year scares me…

                  GOOD Suggestion, merkon !
ALL primary schools to open up one EXTRA class, since more kids born 2007 !
to meet the increase in demand, the supply must be able to accomodate the demand.

For 2014, we definitely need more classes than 2013 insufficient allocated number of classes !
For P1, there are only 3 subjects - English, Maths, Chinese (EMC). To open up one extra class means each popular, hot school just need 3 more P1 teachers, teach EMC. School resources and MOE ... so rich. MOE no lack of teachers around to deploy from HQ. If need be, i believe MOE can call back those very, very experienced, semi retired Principals / VP / Senior Subject HOD to teach.

                  to make it implementable -
shall ALL 2014 P1 parents write in and appeal to MOE desperately ?
JOINT cohesive effort is crucial to support this cause. Thank you !

                      Hi MR06
                      Nice initiative.

It would be useful to see a side by side comparison, so those of us who are interested but less wonkish can see exactly where you are 'tweaking'. It might also help to state exactly which problem you are trying to fix. Otherwise you'll lose control of the debate.

It seems, if I have understood, that your main idea is to reduce the rights of alumni and sibling applicants, especially if they have subsequently moved out of the area (3km seems a key cut-off point) to the benefit of current 2Bs and 2Cs who live near by.

You hit the nail on the head. What you failed to state is the introduction of a cap on Phase2A (ie. maximum 50% of total available vacancy less Phase 1 intake. If the number of vacancies is less than 25% of total vacancy, then the formula Total vacancies after Phase 1 divide by 3 would be adopted)

The cap would ensure P2B and P2C applicants a fair chance in getting their child into a school near their home.

You may also have missed the suggestion to introduce P2C(2) to let Phase 2C Singaporean kids a second chance in registering into a school of their choice should they fail in balloting.

The introduction of P2D prevents PRs from grabbing vacancies before all Singaporean kids are registered in the last phase.

If you think this year's ballotting is bad, next year will be a nightmare.

As for suggestion in opening a new class by other ksp, my question is -would the schools have extra classroom, other infrastructure constraints and manpower limitation? Food for thought! :scratchhead: 🤷
