I believe word of mouth is very important. I was recommended to this place called junior wonders next to hougang mall by my child’s school teacher. Apparently, that place is managed by an ex teacher from Sengkang primary.

I was looking for a home tutor, one with a degree and preferably a school teacher. But the good ones all charge at least $50 per hour per subject. I decided to try this place out for group tuition and my child has been there since then. The tutors are all ex or current school teachers with degrees. So qualifications was no problem at all. Best part is, because they are all trained teachers, they know how to handle kids with all sorts of personailties.

I think just like my problem at first

my Daugther now also Sec 4 is a very fast learner while my boy in P6 now is a little bit slow they are really different from each other.

My Daugther is the one choosing her tuition Centre we hopped I think 6 to 8 time on different tuition centre as she always said tutor not good i cannot learn anything, the thing the tutor is teaching I already know, she doesnt feel challanged and dont feel like learning anything.

While my boy on the other hand dont tell me anything so its hard for me to decide if he has the right tutor. And is he progeressing. I solved all of this with the help of the tutors.

But one thing I noticed is that from all the centres we went to one thing that catch my attention is the Tutors Profile. Who is the tutor teaching my Child, how will he conduct lesson, what are his/her specialization, what is the reputation of the centre, how long has the company (if they have branches) has started.

This are some of the Points im looking and considering when looking for a tuition centre.

Tutors to me are very important, as they will be the one Helping your child develop and do well

Generically, my prof who is a parent of P2 and P4 kids, mentions "Class Size" and "Quality of Teacher", besides the given criteria of "Location", as her top 3 considerations

If possible, try to speak to the centre in-charge, or instructor / tutor. Voice your concerns and see what they tell you. Different kids have different learning curves and weaknesses like you mentioned, sometimes heeding general feedback is not enough.

I always try to speak to someone relevant in the centre before enrolling my kid. If that centre makes all kinds of excuses to avoid that (no time etc…), I’ll just drop them. Tuition is expensive and serious business so they don’t deserve my money if they can’t even spare time to discuss their policies and capabilities with me.

Recently I came upon an English enrichment programme by Young Wordsmith. I spoke with the instructor, who seems really passionate about English, and said that as part of the programme, they will do a face-to-face assessment with my kids to identify their weaknesses before classes. I think that is really helpful, as even smart kids have weaknesses and can be improved if those weaknesses are rectified.

hmm I agree with the above. tutors are very impt, but you must also be aware of what you are searching for. ‘tuition’ and ‘enrichment’ are different things. i send my girls to this place in the Tanglin area. the teachers are very good and they even make themselves contactable on whatsapp if I have any questions. haha.
