        Hi Kat78

Not sure if the system works differently at diff branch. For us, kids can join the P1 syllabus only when they are in P1. If you finish the ICR course earlier, you will have to proceed to the Comprehension and Creative Writing course first. Personally i find the CCW course quite effective and interesting. They will go through stories, proceed with comprehension questions which can either be in open/ended or MCQ format. Also, the teacher will ask them to construct sentences using selected words every week. I was pleasantly surprised when the teacher actually taught them how to search for words using the dictionary.

Guess it helps also that the teacher's lessons are lively and full of 'animated' actions. My girl didnt really find the lessons stressful. Wldnt want to put her off at such a young age.

        hi steffi88,

thanks for the info. cozs im tinking where she go after the Book 6. Any idea how long is the CCW course?

          Hi Kat78

Think it shd be 1 yr. However there is no need to join a new class. Students can join an existing class at anytime, subject to availability. Just need to start from the passage that the class is currently at.

              Hi,

My K2 DS is currently with I can read. I’m thinking of switching him to another English enrichment centre as he already quite a fluent reader. Do I can read centers teach them grammar cos I would like to strengthen his grammar? Thanks!

                Hi

I'm keen to send my boy to White Sands branch. Any comments on that branch?
My boy is 4 yos. For his age, what will be taught in class? Only reading or will there be activities such as story telling, drama etc?

Sorry for the questions and thanks all in advance! 🙂

                  Hi,

I am planning to send my 3.5yo DD to I can Read. However, i was told by my DD’s teacher that it is not advisable to attend this program as it will confuse her. My DD is attending a Montessori school. Can any parents give me your advise, please? Thanks in advance.

You'll have to find out what phonics system your dd's school uses. Most children can differentiate and find the correlation eventually. As the child gets older, the phonetic sound and the way of blending is the same. So the impact isn't too big.

Why don't you wait a while and see if her school is able to help her in reading. There are many enrichments, choose wisely.

My kid is oso on Book 2. I din speak to the teacher but I asked my kid to write the words many times so that he can remb. I tried to decode but as my phonics is not up the mark...i cant help him much on this. The weekly list is long, he cant remb everything. So, if he noe how to deocde, it would be easier....

Hmm… thought the purpose of sending the kids to ICR is to learn how to decode , read unfamiliar words and spell them too. If the kids learn spelling by memorising, it defeats the purpose of sending them there.[/quote]

                      Hi,

You might want to consider requesting your kids to decode the word in front of you before asking them to start spelling. This is what I usually do.
