Dear fellow parents,

Need some advice - son score 263 - 1 point above last year COP for RI, is it risky to 1st choice RI? What are the percentage of success? Thanks!

There is no harm trying.

Last year, not all who score 262 got into RI. Although what we see on our result slip is a whole number, among all 262, there is still ranking (in terms of decimal point).

You can always put RI as first choice, and carefully consider your 2nd choice.

My son scored 234 in the recent PSLE. A bit at a loss on our choices…

We had wanted ACS Barker rd as 1st choice but it seems there’s no vacancy for non-affliates.

Other options include
Tanjong Katong Sec, but cut off is 236.
Maris Stella High (cut of 232) but not sure of the Catholic culture & programs there.
Commonwealth Sec (cut off 238)
Presbyterian High (cut off 232)
Clementi Town (cut off 233)
Gan Eng Seng (cut off 227)-- cos this school is near our home

Anyone knows anything about these schools or has any recommendations on how we should place our choices?

Right now we are thinking
1. Maris Stella
2. Tanjong Katong Sec
3. Commonwealth Sec
4. Presbyterian High
5. Clementi Town
6. Gan Eng Seng

or:
1. Tanjong Katong Sec
2. Commonwealth Sec
3. Maris Stella
4. Presbyterian High
5. Clementi Town
6. Gan Eng Seng

Any opinions to share?

If I put TK Sec 1st choice (COP 236- although a teacher there told me even 236 is difficult to enter this yr…), 2. Maris Stella (COP 232), what are our chances of getting into either one of these schools since my son scored 234.

We very much prefer TK sec but don’t want to risk our chance of not getting into Maris Stella if TK Sec is out. I was told we’ve to compete with all the 234 and those 234 who put MS as 1st choice will get to enter first as compared to my 2nd choice. Can anyone verify this?

Does anyone have anything to share about Maris Stella’s education programs and the catholic culture?

Thanks!
Hi,

I would like to ask the experts here on the following matter:

I overheard a child with T-score of 247 trying to decide which school she could go last year.

She's from nyps, and the COP for nygh was 250 for her due to affiliation. However, her mother discouraged her from putting nygh as the first choice. She asked her to put Crescent Girls as first choice instead as according to her, the COP was 24-something and if the child put Crescent Girls as first choice, she would definitely get a place there. But if she put nygh as first choice and Crescent Girls as 2nd choice, she would be at risk of not getting Crescent Girls if she's rejected by nygh.

How true is that?

It is indeed true that there is a possibility that she would not get in2 Crescent Girls if she gets rejected by nygh... as there would b little vacancies after those who put CG as their first choice gets in... If her score is a lot higher than the cut-off point then she should hav a higher possibility of getting in..

I don't think what you say is very accurate. As long as her score is higher than another kid regardless of whether that kid put CG as first choice, she will take up the spot in CG first. I don't think the COP is pre-defined.

From MOE:
All pupils will be ranked by merit according to their PSLE results. In general, a pupil would be considered for admission to his choice of schools before another pupil who has not performed as well in the PSLE, subject to the availability of vacancies in the school.
But the child will be competing with other 247s and won't priority be given to those 247s who place CG as 1st or earlier choice?

Hi,

My son got 256 with Merit for Tamil HMT. We were hoping for an IP / IB route so that he does not have to got thro' the O levels. Based on past experiences, is there any chance of getting into ACS(I) IB with 256?

Any other schools to recommend, most other IP schools are SAP schools with no Tamil. Please help :?: ...

Have you considered SJI?
Although at present it does not have a 6 year program but it is seeking approval for it.

if Tscore has 6 decimals , then this question doesnot hold .... but no one seems to know whether it is true that there are decimals behind t score
