Total cost for maintaining a maid

For a person to do labour intensive work INTENSIVE? From what I see many maids, especially those working in HDB homes do not have a very heavy workload. within the household, the amount they're paid is not much if you put yourself in a helper's shoes. Would we do cleaning, cooking, taking care of children/babies some with elders with ailments etc etc for someone for only $400? They may be getting $400+ but employer is paying lots more than that, and that is exactly the point the other poster was saying:skeptical: Top that with no friends ???? No friends, you got to be kidding!!!, cannot use hph as and when you likeOther workers can use handphone as and when you like??, confined to the house another exageration ... etc etc?
Even SAHMs have their own stress having to DIY and what more its our own family our own household... so what more an outsider who does the routine for u?

As for the go-betweens who gained... they put their money in first Do they? Don't employers have to cough out a large sum before they even see the maid? to bring the helpers in right? So once the helpers are employed, it's payback time for the helpers. Right? Right, even if the so-called Workers they bring in do not have any intention to work, the agents are entitled to earn thousands of dollars (many times the cost of bringing them over) -

I didn't know we still need to pay during home leave....I am about to renew my maid, my first time, I thought I would save some $, but shocked to find out that not much savings here:-
(a) airticket for her home leave $350 on budget airline(She insists on going back during Christmas period)
(b) agency fees for handling her home leave $260
(c) admin fees paid to philippines Embassy $120
(d) her pay during her home leave of 2 weeks $200
Sigh, we employers are the suckers! All the costs are on us! -
Can someone explain to me the "home leave processing" part?
Can we do ourselves or rather ask the maid to go to the Phil embassy to process the home leave? I read that there is a "multiple" one. The cost of it (info from Phil embassy) looks cheap but if we get an agent, it cost at least $260.
If cheap, can send her home a week every year (IF THE MAID IS A GOOD WORKER) -

If you send her back before she has completed one 2 year contract you have no choice but to go through an agency. Is there a multiple departure kind of home leave? Like a \"multiple visa\" visiting. So poor thing.... go home still need special pass. I remember working in Australia, i can come back Singapore anytime i want -

Totally agree. My friend even brought her maid along when they went to Thailand for holiday. Others bring their maid along on weekend outing. Hair cut, food, toiletries & medical expenses are just part of benefits. Not forgetting incentives & rewards. Hoping that she will take good care of your kids when you treat her well.Before hiring - employment agency fees, the loan from maid (6 months) that you have to pay to the agency upfront, insurance...

During her term - home leave application, airticket, bonus (if you choose to) and the list goes on and on...
Actually quite similar to raising another child or supporting another family member... -

Those are just regular expenses if we can't go without one. If the maid is good then it is worth it. By getting a new maid will cost more, especially the time used to train her.

The whole package could set u back at about $3300+. plus agent fees $400(on average), insurance $270 and $35(medical). The agent pays nothing. So when they tell u they earn peanuts, u know they are lying!!!
Actually, all foreign workers agents are blood suckers. Just look at the construction workers. They paid thousands of dollar to their agents and basically get nothing for the first year. -

Actually is it too expensive for the maids to take it as a holiday adventure. They have to work for free for 8 months. Some of them have difficulties adapting to the new environment & some of them could not meet the employers' expectation. The ones who gain are the agents, it is not the maids or the employers.If d helper really performs, is consider $ well spend.
Bt if turns out to b a holiday adventure for her... We r suckers..
