Any idea how ACSI select their year 1 prefect ?
Hi wp2012, in theory there is a process that includes input from students and teachers. In practice, it is somewhat random, as I've observed from looking at the kinds of prefects we get out of it. The best process we ever ran was the one starting with the S3 overseas trip β that one, if done properly, produces enough material for a 10-page dossier. However, not enough teachers are trained in qualitative research methodology to collect useful observations.
So, to conclude, don't be worried. It might be a blessing to let your son ease his way into the complicated world of adolescent leadership...

Hi worried parent2012,Dear Autolycus,
Any idea how ACSI select their year 1 prefect ?
It goes something like this:
1) Around August, nominations begin. Either teachers/CCA teachers can do the nominations. In the past, I believe a student can nominate another. (not sure about this yr though).
2)Then each nominee has to get 10 teachers (inclusive of CCA teachers) for their assessments. (basically a 2-paged form for the teachers to tick and submit to the Prefect master)
3) Nominees who passed the assessment round will proceed to the PSC (prefects selection camp) which used to be a 3-days camp. Traditionally, it's during Sept hols. But this year, it has been shifted to after the yr end exams.
4) The nominees will be assessed by seniors and prefect masters during the camp and those who passed the PSC round will be put on duty at various spots on a daily basis (mentored by senior prefects) for about a month to have a taste of it.
5) The selected nominees after the above phase will be invested as Assistant Prefects during Prefects investiture in February next yr.

I think this year the nominee needs to get 3 teachers (inclusive of the CCA teachers) for their assessments. I may be wrong. Please advise. -

During my son's time was 10! 3's a blessing, so much easier for the nominee
Is your son going for it? Good luck! Do bear in mind though, that the commitment is great. Besides daily duty spots, Prefects will have to miss lessons if they are scheduled for cheering sessions during sports competitions and official events.

ACSI has started calling successful DSA applicants! :rahrah: :rahrah:

For this year I think it is much easier. Only 2 teacherβs recommendation needed. PCT and CCA teachers. The process of selection is also slightly different.

1) Names of the nominated students have already put up in the canteen Perfect notice board
2) They have to report to their assigned senior perfect for duties on the 15th Aug. They will perform various duties for about 1 month.
3) Senior perfects will submit their reports to the perfect master before 15th Sept.
4) Those who make it to the 2nd round will be notify by mid of Sept.
5) Those who make it to 2nd round will attend a compulsory stayover camp after the final exam. (not sure how many days)
6) Those who make it will be notify by end of term 4.
Anyone know how many will be selected for year 1.I heard only about 10 will be selected in the end. Is this correct? From the list, there are about 69 students nominated. -

May I know what do the students do during the camp? is it something like those in the SAF NS recruit Officer Cadet selection situation test?
