Hi PHTTHP, thank you for your response. I know that my children will be under Phase3 (I stated that in my initial post) and I actually browsed through the MOE and this thread/ forum/ website quite extensively before posting but those are not really what I was asking for. I am familiar with St. Stephen's (both nephews were there) and CHIJs (many friends from CHIJs) and I know most Catholic schools are not co-ed (I grew up in SIN but that was many moons ago šŸ˜„ )

      1. Co-ed schools in Telok Kurau area - what I meant was ANY co-ed schools (non Catholic). I came across Telok Kurau Primary, Opera Estate etc but I know nothing about them (I am not even contemplating Ngee Ann or Tao Nan) so any feedback, thoughts or suggestion of other schools nearby (even Bedok area) would be really helpful.

      2. Catholic co-ed schools - I read somewhere on this website that there are 3 co-ed Catholic primary schools. Not in Telok Kurau area, I know that much. But I can't find that thread again nor could I find anything from the Archdiocese website. I was just wondering if anyone knows it at the top of your head.

Having said that, thanks again for responding. I'll wait for future responses. Warm regards from Canada!
The 3 Catholic co-ed schools are De La Salle and St Anthony's Primary, both in the Choa Chu Kang / Bukit Batok area, and Holy Innocents' Pri in Hougang.

I hardly post here but thought I'd do the neighbourly thing... šŸ™‚ I have a child registering for P1 next yr too.

Telok Kurau Primary is not in Telok Kurau. I checked OneMap and it seems it's at the \"Eunos\" end of \"Bedok Reservoir Road\" (it's a long road from Eunos to Tampines).

If I were you, I'd just enroll in Opera Estate Primary to save (time) on commute and is co-ed (save headache on commute!).

Opera Estate Primary seems to always have vacancies at phase 3 (fewer nails have to be sacrificed). It is an \"old\" school - has been around since I was in Primary school. And is currently touted as the \"local international school\" this side of the East. (\"That Side\" - would be the Katong end and the local International School there is Tanjong Katong Pri)

I have a friend who graduated from Opera Estate Pri last yr and he told me that he LOVED his school. He would recommend it for my child as long as my emphasis is not too much on academics. (coming from a 12 yr old!)

I've driven past it, for research, and the exterior looks nice and big...and new(ish). It would be a school I would consider for my own child.

The other school I can propose is Bedok Green Primary. It's a relatively new school. But in terms of commute (it's a big thing for me!) it'll be a easier one then going to Telok Kurau Primary. It's opposite the Bedok Stadium (if you are familiar w the area.) But based on the records on this site, it seems more \"popular\" than Opera Estate (perhaps because it's situated in a more densely populated area - apt blks v houses).

I know this info isn't much since I don't have first hand info on either schools. Perhaps you could post in the specific school's forum thread to gather more information.

Hopefully you'll find it comforting to know that, I've spoken to some people who work in Primary Schools and the response I get is similar. All schools are given the same resource from MOE (of course, there's an advantage for schools w other avenues for resource like Kongsi/Clan). But MOE maintains all schools similarly across the board (unlike schools in the West where \"worse\" public schools don't even have money for paper...) in terms of facilities and supplies.

Also, teachers are trained the same way and no school can cherry pick their teachers. MOE assigns. And principals change. So I guess it's pretty \"fair\".

Lastly, the bit of consistent info I've gathered is, as long as your child gets to the top 2 class of any primary school, he/she would be taken care of. šŸ™‚

Hope you can find out more in the next few months. All the best.

              Opera Estate Primary School -
will conduct the next school visit for 2014 Primary 1 intake in January or February next year, depending on the demand from 2014 P1 parents. Parents who're interested may ask all questions & concern, when you're there.

                preciousmoments:
According to my colleague who has two girls born in February and December of the same year, MOE treats them as 2 separate applications, cannot be considered as a combined application like twins. They registered this year.

Why twin considered as one application? Cos they are registering for he same year. Such should apply to those that have children registering for the
same year, it will be against MOE principles if not.

                  Hi everyone -

This forum has been very informative.

I’d like your thoughts on what my chances are please for the following:

                  #1 SJIJ Phase 2B > 2km
                  #2 RVPS Phase 2C <2km

We are catholics and personally am inclined towards SJIJ given that it has secondary school affiliation.

I’m also thinking about renting a place to be closer to SJIJ to increase our chances.

                  Thanks in advance.

Johmom, thank you so much for your response. And PHTTHP, thanks for the heads-up on OEPS open house. I will keep that in mind.

I have browsed through the OEPS thread on this website and I think it may be the school best suited for us (although apparently some parents "cried" at the thought of having to settle for OEPS :-). My husband, being born-raised Canadian, expressed concerns about putting the kids through the local school system (I must have whined a lot about my school days in Singapore) and I like the fact that OEPS seems to be "more holistic" in its approach. Besides, it fits the bill of being close to where my sisters are (Telok Kurau).

                      Once again, thank you!

parents with daughters considering Marymount or St Margaret -

these are the last two GEM \"All Girls\" schools remaining under Phase 2C / 2C Supp (if any left for next year 2013 July Registration) - what is their difference in academic standard, compared with other \"All Girls\" schools ?
