I wonder how many girls from SCGS were kick out from SCGS because they cannot meet the year 2012 PSLE cut off point to SCGS secondary. I doubt SCGS chase out their students.

It's not a matter of whether SCGS wants to kick its primary school girls out. If they don't meet the COP of 220, they can't enter SCGS secondary. Unlike ACS Barker, SCGS doesn't have Normal Academic classes. So even from way back when, girls who couldn't make it to express stream (COP 200 for SCGS) they couldn't go back to SCGS secondary.

I don't think it's so easy to say straight 12 yrs, I have heard some girls who cannot meet points require after PSLE to Secondary, have to be transferred out. And for IP, only the top performers can qualify

for SCGS pri to sec, the cut off point currently of 220 is low by the standard of other IP school (eg NYGH is 250). even though the school is raising the cut off point gradually, every parents feels that there is hope - the kids got 6 years to work on it and if they work hard they are likely to get it. This is tangible hope.

At least one foot is in for SCGS, compared to other pri school without affiliation and without IP for sec school - eg SMPS - got affiliation to St Marg but no IP although there is 2 points discount for going to SAJC as part of Anglican family of schools.

as of today, lowest minimum COP :-
          i)
          - for SCGS primary school girls to enter affliated SCGS Sec is 220.
          - for Nanyang primary school girls to enter affliated NYGH Sec is 250.

          ii)
          - for outsiders to enter SCGS Sec is 25X
          - for outsiders to enter NYGH Sec is 262.

          question:-
why such a big, wide difference of 30 points apart between SCGS and NYPS girls, to enter their respective affliated Sec ?

if NYPS affliated girls minimal COP is 250, but outsiders need minimal 262 to enter NYGH, so about ... 12 points difference.

hence, likewise should be applied to SCGS.
ie. if outsiders expected to enter SCGS Sec minimal around 256, then 12 points down is ....244. Thus, should raise the bar for SCGS affliated girls from 220 to around 245. The current 30 points diff is too big, should narrow the gap.

after all, isn't SCGS Sec turning IP school 2013, taking on challenge ? Going forward - SCGS Sec will pit & challenge against established NYGH and RGSS in future. Thus, COP bar from 220 has to be raised much higher !

SCGS Secondary only have Express classes.

a number of ACS boys with better PSLE score head for either ACSI or RI, plus some to HCI.

I am NYGH old girl and in my year there was one class reserved for NYPS girls going into the Express stream. I don't remember the COP being that high for affiliated girls from NYPS. The bar has been raised a lot! I am sure SCGS is going down the same road of increasing the COP for affiliation, no doubt about it. Our poor kids!

Ther are 6 P1 classes in SCGS, averaging 30 - 33 students per class.

SCGS pri students, like MGS students, must meet a minimum of 220 to go to SCGS sec ( express).
Only students (both fr other schools and SCGs Pri) who meet the min COP for the IP program wil be accepted into the IP program. There is no ‘discount’ for SCGS Pri pupils.

A friend’s cousin’s DD was asked to leave SCGS primary when she cannot make the grade in the primary school…She was transferred to neighbourhood school…Cold. …But this is how the school can maintain standards.

In primary school? Was she asked to leave bec of academics or some other reason? I find it hard to believe that the school would do that in primary school.

NYPS yes. NYPS will kick the child out if the child did not match their academics standard.

It is about demand and supply also. If I can score eg. > 250 you think I still want scgs ? Or if I have > 260 I already ‘cheong’ to Raffles. All the nanyang schools eg NYPS, nygh or even ny kindergarten are all highly in demand and they can set very stringent stds. It is like you ask the stallholder to raise price to shorten the quene but you need to know other stall condition and your food before you raise price.
