Diff leaving sch exams for p6 GEPers

....the reason for me to raise up this topic is that i get to know a p6 kid who is not born in Singapore and beat all the gepers in his/her school and were boasting around.... so want to 'stand up/ta bao bu pin' for Singaporean kids thats all...

So this kid, though he does well in one exam; he is not there yet.
Teach your kid well, and she/he may yet surpass him.
Also teach this kid if you have the chance - he may well become a Singaporean one day, you know.
Having a different PSLE exam for GEPers is not the solution.
This kid sounds like a bit of a sour grape. We are above that, aren't we? Sure we are, we're Singapore. Have a cup of tea. :celebrate:

There were cases whereby gifted students were identified during P3 GEP screening but bcos of some reasons (distance, worry about stress, financial… etc) they did not join the GEP. But when come to P6 some were among the top students. To certain extend, the GEP system is quite accurate in identifying gifted students. But we also have to agree that no system is 100%.

No leh... 2007 and 2008 top PSLE kids are GEPPERS, only this year. So don't lose heart.. GEPPERS ability to cope might be better than we know.

As for this year it is not only the top scorer but in general GEP schools did not do as well...

Not true. The GEP cohort in RGPS did well.

I know of a GEPer who used to top, if not 2nd, for all four subjects in the sch and was overall first consistently, even among GEPers. Many expected him to top PSLE but he did not, not even in his sch. But if you ask me, I believe he is truly gifted- so bright and I trust he would shine in future. I don't think PSLE measures everything. The foreign students are also a yr or two older than our local. So being more matured and hardworking, some do perform better.

My cousin, a GEPer, only scored 25+ in his PSLE some years back though he is extremely brilliant. He was selected for training for both Physics and Chemistry Olympaid but ultimately chose Chem and won a medal at the international competition. His weakness- Chinese is the cause of his 25+ for PSLE. He is now offered admission to Cambridge, MIT and Harvard. I'm sure many who scored better than him in PSLE did not fare as well as him when the learning becomes more in depth and abstract.
