Anyway what I'm trying to say is, it is not a norm to get PR with 1~2years, even with high income.

Hence, no PR doesn't mean the couple is poor.

Those who haven't get, just be patient.. mebbe 5 years seems like reasonable..

But the people I know the norm is less than six months. 5 years to get PR for spouse is not the norm. Those complain on online forum, I don’t know, because hard to verify. What I do know is that they ask for sponsor’s (ie. SC spouse) income, CPF statements, income tax notices of assessment, letter from employer or business registration certificate if self-employed, educational certificates. All very $$$ oriented.


But I know cannot be suka suka one. Suka suka with no clear, transparent criteria is an open invitation for corruption.

Unfortunately, the employer will be in violation of the regulation if she so much as wash 1 plate outside her employer's home. Know maids who complain to MOM after washing plates after meal at host family where employer was a guest. :slapshead:

Technically maid will be the princess outside employer's home. Even my kids are brought up to wash up when they are guests. :frustrated:

So long as the maid is agreeable and/or compensated and can manage, such restriction should be reviewed.

Totally agree and same arrangement for me. My maids also requested not to have days off so that they can save money. And they do want to work in grandparent’s home if they are compensated. Hard to think about having more kids if their care taking arrangement cannot be satisfactorily resolved.

Was referring to foreigner spouse of SC. Length of stay is also a factor.


Bcoz in other forums always got pple complain spouse cannot get PR.. and they income not really low.. guess there was one case the salary like.. $16k/mth? also rejected.

PR is not like 1~2yrs can easily get.. some mebbe 5~6 yrs then can get.

Many factors involved..

And in some cases, even low income also can fast fast get.. within 6mths.. but they got friends inside. Any relation? don't know.. you make your own judgement......

Yet in the meantime, the government seem to be giving PR away to any Tom, Dick and Harry with no connection whatsoever to Singapore.

An Immigration and Checkpoints Authority analyst was jailed for two months for corruption and fined a total of $9,000 for computer misuse on Friday.


Ng Chun Wei, 35, was also ordered to pay a penalty of $700.

He had pleaded guilty to accepting $500 from Mr Mohamed Saif Mohamed Salleh, 44, to facilitate the hawker's application for his children's Singapore citizenship in November 2010.

Mr Saif has two children from his second marriage to a Filipino national and had tried previously to apply for the kids' Singapore citizenship without success.

Ng, then attached to the Border Watch Unit, had also admitted to three charges of accessing the ICA computer system to find out the status of Mr Saif's application for his Filipino children on Dec 7, 8 and 9, 2010 at ICA Building in Kallang Road.

Another charge of corruption involving $200 and 21 other offences under the Computer Misuse Act were considered during his sentencing.

The man who introduced them - part-time musician Tan Poh Guan, 55 - was also jailed two months for aiding Mr Saif in giving the $500 bribe to Ng near Chinatown Point on a day in November 2010.

He was given another two weeks for lying to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau on Jan 4, 2011 that it was he who took the $500 and another $200 from Mr Saif.

A second corruption charge was considered during his sentencing.

They could have been fined up to $100,000 and/or jailed for up to five years for corruption.

For computer misuse, Ng could have been fined up to $5,000 and/or jailed for up to two years on each charge.

The more interesting question is why was Mr Mohamed Saif Mohamed Salleh’s application to register his children as Singapore citizens not successful? Maybe somebody thinks we already have too many children who are citizens?

Indeed, I agree - what's the point if parents just dump them at grandparents' place? I hv two colleagues on such arrangement. The kid now three and a half, has been at grandma's place since birth. He only return to his home on weekends. During the weekdays, he stay at grandma's home.

I find this a very uncomfortable scenario.

Another colleague, due to give birth this dec, will also be having such arrangement - either leave at nanny's place from Sunday night to Friday evening or at grandma's place, same thing check in Sunday night check our fri evening.

When I asked her the reason, she said because she could not imagine a life of not enough sleep. She said, if her sleep quality/quantity is compromised, she can't work. When I ask her, haven't she expected this prior to planning for a child ( someone\" accident\" then have a child, this couple plan for one)? She said no, never thought of it. :faint:
