That does look quite hard for P1. And there is no need to have three. -

(1) the child is likely to give up half way... and not complete the homework
(2) when this happens, getting scolded for not completing homework becomes a norm
(3) overtime, the child is habituated to poor study habits
P1 is when one builds attitude and study habits. If I want my child to stay on task here... I would probably need to be close by to provide encouragement. This means I have be a SAHM or get a tutor or pull teaching duties after a long day at work.t is a long cycle task. Not suitable for P1. -

I know it won't help your daughter much but if I were you I would feedback to the school formally. Send an email to the teacher cc the HOD and the Principal if you like. Mention that you know other schools are not doing this and ask why they need to set the bar so high. If they are following the same syllabus as my daughter's school then they are basically teaching at a P2 level which makes no sense.She doesn't need to memorize. Chen, she is exhibiting point 3. You are right. We started engaging a tutor in term 2 after the school started progress test. The tests are above average but many kids in her class are still able to perform. My dd is the minority.
Nms1, after reding other parents response, I am going to ask the form teacher again. Thanks for your suggestion. -

I hope the teacher will only test 2-3 sentences. It doesn't make sense to set the bar so high in p1. -

I would be worried if the highlighted is the case. That only means either all the others kids have SAHMs (unlikely) which were diligent to help with the spelling tests or, they have tutors or go for English enrichments (more likely). My family is in neither catagory, and I have a girl coming to P1 next year :roll: What you posted is beyond what most P1s are expected to know (\"prowl\", serious?). That's the vicious cycle of tuition which teaches ahead and which pushes the bar higher and higher in class since schools have to set tests that \"differentiate\" the kids. The form teachers tells me matter of factly. It is not just her class that will be sitting for this test. It's given to the whole cohort.mgnvr:

I don’t know if the kids have tuition, SAHP, or are just bright. The expectation of them is high. Already in the previous test, they are tested on modeling and as usual my dd didn’t get the concept.
