#You are correct in converting the mixed number into improper fraction in order to see the relationship between the female and male workers.

What we understand by the statement “The number of female workers is 11/3 times the number of male workers” is that the ratio of female to male workers is 11: 3. In other words for every 3 male workers there are 11 female workers.

So, if
No. of female workers = 11 units, then the no. of male workers must be 3 units.

Knowing this, we are given the difference in the no. of female and male workers in the factory. (i.e. 16 more female than male workers)

11units – 3 units = 8 units = 16
1 unit = 2

Total no. of workers
= 11 units + 3 units
= 14 units = 14 x 2 = 28

I just asked a stupid question. Sorry for that.

I understood why 11 = female and 3 = male. All the while I came across the value is whole number, but for this question is fraction number. So I get confused.
e.g. male 2 times than the female. 2 = 2/1.
