I am currently a part time english tutor. I charge according to the level of standard and distance.

Primary school - Lower Primary $35 (Yishun and AMK)
Upper primary $40 (Yishun and AMK)
Secondary school - Lower $45 (Yishun and AMK)
Upper $50 (Yishun and AMK)

$180 is way too high. And there is no thing as guarantee that your child will pass with distinction. Success is determined by many factors. It will be good for the tutor to assess your child’s academic ability and share his or her knowledge of the child’s potential.

Thanks for your info. The tutor is an experienced old lady and she's v good in compo. DS definitely needs help on Chin. This year, I put him into one of the tuition centre. I asked him what did he learn and he replied 'revision lor'. Plus there are some noisy/hyper students in class that makes the teacher difficult to teach. Well, I will try out the tutor and I hope she can stretch him a bit more. Eventually I hope he can rely on himself.

If you find that it's reasonable, it is reasonable. Since the tutor is very experienced and good, just give her a try!

$180 is really too high. Moreover it is per hr. What if it is 1.5hr, then it will be $270 per lesson and $1080 per month!! What if the child cannot do well, I think it is not worth spending so much on a non-guarantee thing. It is really crazy!!!

$100/hr achieving 100% then worth.

I’m paying less than $30 (P5 boy) per lesson for 2 hours…after 10 lessons, seen immediate result…from never passed since his P2 / P3 to above 50 marks.

And less then $40 (Sec 1 girl) per lesson for 2 hours…after 10 lessons, seen immediate result…from 22+ & 33+ marks in her first half year papers to above 50 marks for the next half year papers.

Passed finally for both. Good start just after 10 lessons.

That is cheap. Is it one to one tuition and does the tutor go to your house? Oh, and is it a full-time tutor?

Can anyone recommend a good Chinese tutor or a good tution centre for my child, his SA2 Chinese result is very bad and I am worried for his PSLE next year. Pls help. I’m staying in the East.

Yup. I think $35-40 is reasonable.

I paid $35 for P1-3 EMSC, and $40 for P4-6 EMSC. And all of it under the same tutor.
