Horror Stories - Tutors

verykiasumummy:
Private tutors should volunteer to show their certificates during the first lesson without the parents asking. If a tutor does not have the basic integrity, then we can't expect him or her to teach from the heart even if he or she possesses superior knowledge of the subject matter.YJL:
on this topic, do u find out the credentials of your child's tutor be it tuition centre or private tuition? how do u go about asking?
during first lesson, they should bring their original certs for verification... do not accept if they say they forget or whatsoever... i got 2 tutors from some tuition agency and 1 of them sms me 1hr before first lesson saying that she forgot her cert, will bring next lesson, and i cancelled her lesson on that day. i told her i will only start first lesson after seeing her certs.. in the end she told me she couldnt teach my dd as the time slot was taken by another student... whatever...
the other one told me his certs were lost in the mrt or what, told him to replace his certs before starting and no news from him again...
i cant say both of them are lying, i just cant help thinking that they could hv faked their qualifications..
i'm actually not particularly if the tutor is a diploma or degree so long as the qualifications are real... -

yes, very true... request for their certs is just a norm... probably minority will lie only... i choose to believe most are real...

First time maybe ok. I will ask the tutor to show me next time but if next time also forget then I won't keep that tutor.

Cert also got fake one now, try to sit in the lessons.
Actually you can see your child's work and ask them for feedback. -

All JC teachers NEED to go through NIE training. They are usually in the Secondary/JC tracks under the post-graduate diploma course, which means most of them already had a degree before joining NIE/MOE. I know this because I'm a geography lecturer in a JC.kiasu_mum75:
I discovered a tuition centre tutor lying that he is an ex-moe jc teacher when he doesn't even have an NIE certificate. this is absurd. moe doesn't check on tuition centers?
jc teacher does not need nie cert i think...
the nie also trains teachers for pri and sec... most jc and poly and ite teachers are professionals in the working field...
u can check this thru the moe website... i read about this some time ago... -

i do agree some parents, like my friends, only want graduates to teach their dc... but for me, i think so long as the teacher knows the syllabus well and can teach my dc well, i'm ok even if she is just diploma or A-level...
