Horror Stories - Tutors
-
Private tuitor who go to your home to teach very easy to check. Just ask the teacher for the original cert. Ask them to show you the original NIE diploma and their degree transcript before you engage them. If tuition centre usually should be ok as their tuition teachers must be approved by MOE. So better don’t use home private tuitor. Quite risky.

oh have check on the moe webby… i rmb wrongly…
so pri, sec and jc teachers must be trained in nie… so that means the teacher should hv nie certificate…
lying thru their teeth for such qualifications is very unethical… they are teachers, they should not lie about such things!! -

on this topic, do u find out the credentials of your child's tutor be it tuition centre or private tuition? how do u go about asking?
during first lesson, they should bring their original certs for verification... do not accept if they say they forget or whatsoever... i got 2 tutors from some tuition agency and 1 of them sms me 1hr before first lesson saying that she forgot her cert, will bring next lesson, and i cancelled her lesson on that day. i told her i will only start first lesson after seeing her certs.. in the end she told me she couldnt teach my dd as the time slot was taken by another student... whatever...
the other one told me his certs were lost in the mrt or what, told him to replace his certs before starting and no news from him again...
i cant say both of them are lying, i just cant help thinking that they could hv faked their qualifications..
i'm actually not particularly if the tutor is a diploma or degree so long as the qualifications are real... -

usually going to tuition centre will be safer though... -

Private tutors should volunteer to show their certificates during the first lesson without the parents asking. If a tutor does not have the basic integrity, then we can't expect him or her to teach from the heart even if he or she possesses superior knowledge of the subject matter.YJL:

First time maybe ok. I will ask the tutor to show me next time but if next time also forget then I won't keep that tutor.

Actually you can see your child's work and ask them for feedback.
