Does anyone know what are the areas tested on for P5 Entry Test? What is the duration of the test? Is the test very difficult? Appreciate your feedback… Thanks!

How does Learning Point compared to say Mindstretcher?

LP stretches the children more especially if your child is selected for the GIE program. My niece is in the program, I like the materials and hoping that my kids will be recommended for it.

LP stretches the children more especially if your child is selected for the GIE program. My niece is in the program, I like the materials and hoping that my kids will be recommended for it.

MindStretcher does not offer any \"Gifted\" English programme, unlike Learning Point.

            just to share -
had a friend whose P2 son attended MindStretcher (MS) English Creative Writing class this year. After enrol her son in MS for one term, she took him out and transfer him to another centre. I asked her why ? She replied - MS introduced too many \"bombastic\" words, which she think is not necessary. She said made the essay like become a bit too \"qua zhang\" if intro too many \"bombastic\" words. She said the flow of essay must be natural, and only intro \"bombastic\" words sparingly, at the right suitable time.

            back to LP -
for those whose kid did not get into \"GIE\" - don't be disheartened.
There are kids from \"PIE\" (\"Progress in English\") recommended to go to \"GIE\", if teacher feel that your child is ready for it. However, teacher said that to qualify for GIE, the child's Grammar & Compreh must be very strong.
The requirement is that your child not only need to read, but more impt is - read with understanding. Because there's a lot of inference involved, in the questions asked.

            example:
there are some P1s initially only qualified for PIE.
because when they took the test that time, child not sure what's happening (a bit blur). But after spending a few term with LP, if your child show great improvement, teacher will recommend child to go \"GIE\", next new academic year.

on the other hand - also heard that there are some kids already in GIE programme, but for some reason or other, parents prefer to transfer their child go back to PIE instead.
Think the best is still ask the GIE teacher (before you sign up ) - what is the main difference in curriculum, between GIE and PIE ?

any parent whose child had gone through lower primary P1 / P2 @ Learning Point ?

Do you see any improvement in your child's English written skill(s) todate
              ?

heard that P1 / P2 LP programme focus 50 % of her bulk on creative writing composition.
the remaining 50 % focus on compreh, grammar, cloze & oral.
Thank you very much, for kind precious feedback.

              for admission -
all outsider candidates are required to take an entry assessment test, to assess your child's English proficiency level, about 45 minutes to 1 hour - test your child readiness on:-
grammar, cloze passage(s), compreh and compo. Make sure you prepare you child or else you have to try 6 mths later.

LP (Thomson Plaza) is open from Mon - Sat.
LP (Simei) is closed on Mon, open from Tue - Sat.

both branches are closed on Sun, Public holiday(s).

perhaps due to recent MOE announcement on new changes to 2015 PSLE English language paper -
LP noted a surprise surge or an increase in demand in the number of 2013 P1 classes, as compared to previous past years. Many parents keen to lay a strong foundation, the earlier the better, instead of nearing towards P5 / P6.
              phtthp,

Are you looking at thier P1 English or Maths program? I'm looking at thier Maths program in which again they said the child have to take a placement test. English P1 are all on a long waiting list.

parents staying in the east, may take note of changes:-

next year around Feb 2013 -
Learning Point (Simei) branch will be shifting to Parkway Centre building (ie. Macdonald building, in Marine Parade). Parkway Centre is a busy, bustling booming place! Each and every floor has so many enrichment centre(s) housed in that tall building. Tao Nan SAP school, Ngee Ann, CHIJ Katong Convent, TKPS, Haig Girls, etc. are nearby around Katong, Joo Chiat area.

Learning Point will shift together with her sister school, \"Hua Cheng Chinese Education centre\". They are owned by the same owner.

                http://www.huachengeducation.com.sg/

after shifting, no more Simei (become history).
Oh gost LP (Simei) going to shift to Parkway Parade? Wow that place is terrible to find parking & no MRT to there. :stompfeet:

I understand that LP going to set up a new branch in Bt Timah Plaza.

Gie = gifted in English. Lp's \"higher level\"/high achiever's class. I believe they would still want to assess the kid, even if the sa2 result is excellent.

above P1 timetable is for English program (PIE - Progress in English).
P1 GIE has a different, separate timetable. (din ask)

didn't ask P1 Maths - because she's currently in Montessori kindergarten taking care of her Maths.

@ Thomson Plaza - English P1 are all on a long waiting list.

but @Simei (or Parkway Centre, from Feb 2013) - English P1 still got vacancies.

Bukit Timah Plaza - new branch just opened; English P1 got vacancies.
